The only time I ever had mead was when we toured a small meadery that had opened by us a few years ago (might’ve been Moonlight). I liked what I tried but couldn’t imagine drinking a whole glass or bottle of it so never bought any more. I should probably get around to trying it again

They’re honey wines, not designed to drink the whole bottle in a single sitting alone

I have really gotten into meads a lot in the past few years and exploring some of the newer meaderys has been a lot of fun.

Black Heath, Funktastic, and Manic have all blown me away with some of their small batch offerings, but I usually have to travel or trade quite a bit to get their bottles.

I love Superstition and Garagiste (the only real quality meads that get distro'd to my area) and I've gone through most of both of their portfolios by now.

It's hard not to compare everything to Schramms though. I've never had anything from Pips to compare, but Schramms is the pinnacle for quality, consistency, and overall A+ flavor for all their offerings I've tried so far. Hoping to get my hands on some Pips one day.

I guess I always assumed since they’re typically sold in smaller bottles like beer they should be consumed like that, but it makes sense they should be treated more like dessert wines

  5. Yeah, we've kept some of the 750ml Superstition bottles open for several weeks (refrigerated, of course) and they continued to drink great

Usually no problem for my wife and I to polish off a 375ml in a night though

I 100% would love to send y’all a shelfie schramms but they’re all at least $25+ a bottle lol. I think, though, any of the schramms I’ve had are genuinely the best fermented beverage I’ve ever consumed.

It could be arranged! Next time I go to the bottle shop I’ll snap a pick of what they have for schramms (usually around 8+ different bottles).

Superstition Meadery is near me and apparently has amazing highly rated meads but I haven’t gotten into meads at all. They do a peanut butter jelly one that people always go nuts for.

I think I’m going to have to get a bottle of Moonlight tonight with all this mead talk

Let me know what you get and how you like it! Moonlight gets some distro here so I’m open to recommendations.

  13. Thanks! I'm mostly interested in just seeing what they have for now. Not sure I can jump on it just yet, I bought *a lot* of bourbon last week. Need a paycheck or two to catch back up, haha

I love Superstition but thought the PB&J one was disgusting lol, and I love actual PB&J's and PB&J beers

I got this one with boysenberry. It’s really good. I’ve had their blueberry one (don’t remember the name) as well as Kurt’s Apple Pie and both are quite good. I almost got the Apple one today but was intrigued by the boysenberry.

Yeah I had like 3/4 of the bottle of mead, so good. Decided to crack into some Oxbow, the smoke and maple syrup are so subtle.

Had this 10%er yesterday. Could feel it towards the end (I may have had a tasting paddle prior) but it went down an absolute treat.

On a mini vacation to Portland, Maine. Unfortunately Allagash is closed for pours, but we hit up Foundation and Definitive today which were nice. Rising Tide yesterday was just ok.

Definitely. The plan is to check out some of the more 'popular' spots tomorrow or Tuesday. There were wait times ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 hours for some of the bigger food spots downtown yesterday.
