I literally went to six different places on Saturday to find a 6-pack of Sam Adams Octoberfest because my wife wanted it and all six places were out of it.
Honestly, every place I walked into I said out loud 'you gotta be kidding me' because I know these places normally carry it and it's like, the most widely available type of Octoberfest around here. I did not check our main grocery store that day, as I'm certain they would have had it, but the six places I went to were all corner/gas station stores that were closer to me than the grocery store.
Makes sense tho. We’re already done with Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. We’ll have Celebration next week.
I've got two beers left from @djwildefire and they've all been stellar. the Cellarmaker collab with Tired Hands was a stand-out as was a passionfruit-y saison from Sante Adairius Rustic Ales. honestly, one of the best saison's I've had in a while and was perfect for a park hang. my friends and I were also pumped to sample Pliny the Elder. there truly has not been a bad beer from the package. you nailed it!
Last two are Map of the Sun and Demonteller, right? Both are pretty fun, The Rare Barrel is a local sour brewery in Berkeley. I think one of the beers you sent was actually a Threes/TRB collab. Really nice taproom and always excellent service. It’s the first time they’ve canned Map, low on funk but huge on apricot flavor. Demonteller on the other hand is a great lightly hoppy mixed culture saison from Holy Mountain up in Seattle, who I’m pretty sure can’t make a bad beer. Eager to get your thoughts on both, but unlike the IPAs I sent, you can take your time trying these if you wish! I’m really excited to crack into the bottles you sent, but have kind of been saving them. Maybe tonight’s the night to open one though!
Still contemplating opening one of @sean_rugy ’s bottles but first...an IPA from @spiffa0 , Tonewood Brewing’s Hemispheres. This is very hazy but not overly sweet which is kind of the trend nowadays. I quite liked it.
This Threes/Rare Barrel collab was beautiful. Sometimes fruited oak-aged saisons just come across as American wild ales with the base beer being completely covered by the fruit. This one though is a saison at heart, with the addition of ample juicy peach flavor. Just a touch of acidity. Would drink this everyday if I could. Thanks so much for this, @sean_rugy !
Tonewood is my fav south Jersey brewery. There isn't much good in South Jersey lol. You have the big guys like cape may and flying fish. Brotherton is pretty good. But everything else is mediocre to bad.
and here I am, never heard of any of those except Tonewood which is only because you included it in my package haha
Cheers from our wedding weekend this past Sunday. Currently in Burlington on our honeymoon and Hill Farmstead is fittingly on tap at our hotel.
In Florida, so I’m getting shit I can’t in Chicago. Picked up Wicked Weed Pernicious IPA (it killed a little of my soul because they were bought out), Terrapin Luau passion fruit/orange/guava, and Brew Link Nuttercup peanut butter porter.
Anyone in here with access to Westbrook's standard gose? I'll pay the cost of the beer + shipping. I want to try it along side my work's gose/with my bosses as well since they are actually willing to work and improve beers unlike my last gig.
I assume you aren't counting Kane/Carton/Icarus as South Jersey?? Some people don't believe in Central Jersey haha
@sean_rugy just saw that Non Sequitur now is opening up a brick and mortar on 61 Bergen St. I realized there was a bar I used to go to there called 61 Local, it’s a shame it’s closed, I’m assuming. But at the same time, glad Non Sequitur is getting a space. Their draft list was never great so this seems like an appropriate switch.
