Oh yeah it’s like a 5-10 minute walk between the two and you should also check out the General Store next to the Cafe
I've been brewing with a few friends and we've been making mostly palatable beers but nothing too mindblowing. but we just made a stout that was mostly influenced by a founders breakfast stout clone recipe that we found. we added a bunch of coffee and cacao nibs. and then also added oak chips that we had soak in maker's mark. and the beer tastes really good. like really really good. I'm probably biased, but I was still really surprised. not much else to say, but I'm not a part of any homebrewing groups or anything, and I just wanted to share. hahah. it was really cool to make something that actually tasted good.
I really want to try homebrewing. Need to get some interested friends together. I'm just afraid that what we churn out will taste like most microbrew places in the area lol. After a while they all taste the same.
I truly think stouts are such a good starter beer when first home brewing. Hard to really mess up that style given how robust it is, a lot of flaws can get covered up (if there are any.)
Also, my work tapped our base imperial stout for the first time. Previously, we’d only barrel aged the beer. Grabbed myself a crowler and can’t wait to have it tonight.
Start off small with like 1 or 3 gallon batches, that way if you don’t like it you don’t feel bad dumping it. And you most likely will make some duds but that’s part of the fun in experimenting. And it is still very rewarding being able to drink a beer that you made yourself
I have a few friends that homebrew and have gotten pretty good at it. I’ve never done it myself. But yeah their stouts are almost always the best stuff they do. although two of my friends that are brothers who brew together made a white peach peppercorn IPA one time that was seriously awesome
Lol saw you went to The Ways. That’s exactly the beer I’m afraid of making. Was not a fan of pretty much anything there was Bill’s Best any better? There’s a slew of local spots that all kinda taste the same. The Ways, Naked Brewing, Broken Goblet, Chestnut Hill, Tannery Run etc. I still don’t really even like the majority of Neshaminy Creek stuff
As someone in the industry I should probably know the difference between barrel aged and imperial. Educate me Mike.
I just use imperial as a place holder for high ABV/russian imperial stout category. So our non-barrel aged stout we put on tap yesterday is just our 9.5% stout before we put it into whiskey barrels to age. We release that on the 22nd. Not as confusing as the porter/stout debate or the imperial ipa/DIPA debate. For whatever reason, my boss insists on calling all of our IPA’s over, like, 7.5% ABV imperial IPA’s and corrects people when they call em double IPA’s. Don’t know why.
yea ive seen so much abv overlap when it comes to ipas, imperials, doubles, etc. ive been seeing that light hearted ale around got to give it a try
I haven’t had the official version but if it’s close to the sample I had in the fall I stan Light Hearted Ale and its way better than Two Hearted. looking forward to Black Hearted this month.
