Does anyone have any good recommendations for Unfiltered IPA's? Had one this past weekend and fell in love with it. So far I have had STONE's and it's good.
Most of your small local breweries are probably putting them out. Just keep an eye out for anything called a NEIPA (New England or Northeast) or a hazy IPA and give them a shot.
My 2019 is wrapped up (sans tonight and tomorrow). Drank 257 different/new craft beers this year that I had never tried before 2019. An interesting journey, found a lot of new favorites. Got the "Comic Book Story of Beer" for Xmas and it's been a great read. Extremely detailed/informational.
Pretty big yikes from this brewery. Haven't heard of them before but that's a pretty big error on their part ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ — First It Was Exploding Cans, Now 450 North Shrugs Off Miscalculated ABVs — Good Beer Hunting
When this came out last week I legitimately could not believe it. This place's entire enormous amount of hype instantly evaporated. They're done. And their response was so laughably bad. They're literally just removing the ABV from the label but not changing anything else about them. Really glad I never traded for any of their stuff lol.
To be fair, the label thing I think is a simple issue of it takes forever to get government approval on can labels so it might be a case of they decided to remove the ABV from the label, pre-purchased a bunch and are stuck with them. It’s common for us to submit labels (despite us not having cans or bottles but we want the labels preapproved for whenever we get to that stage) and not have them get approved until six months later. but yeah, either gross misunderstanding of how fermented beverages work or they def were cutting corners on the ABV and knew it and were screwing over customers. I’d venture to guess a lot of the highly fruited sour beers out there are lower in ABV then what is listed. Not to this level. The fact they didn’t release their own results means to me it showed even worse then other independent test.
yeah, just being pretty much like "oh, well. Still pay us $20 for some fruit juice please" is a baffling response. Not even attempting to correct it or understanding why it's a big deal.
From what I understand, these things are literally 90% fruit puree/juice so I have a really hard time believing it was an innocent mistake. Although I guess at that point it's almost on the customers for not realizing what was going on until now lol.
the best part is when they said "We have made mistakes in the past and are likely to make mistakes again" haha like thanks guys real reassuring there
How anyone has drank these things that are supposed to be like 8% and not realize they’re essentially NA fruit juice is beyond me.
There's a brewery about an hour from my house called Imprint that does their own version of slushy-style beers, but theirs always seem to clock in at between 6.0-6.5%, which feels more realistic to me than 8%. Unlike the 450 North slushies, I have had those (they're delicious). Wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to independently test their stuff now too though.
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the market shift so dramatically. In 2015 the amount of shit people used to get for genuinely enjoying fruit beers and now those same dudes that talked shit on, say, founders rubeus are lining up and dropping for Tropicana fruit punch as a beer at $25/pack lol
anyone here done the Hopsy thing before? Received it for Christmas. Currently have 10 beers with like 2 I'm interested in.
i am definitely on this new hazy bandwagon. new favorite beer trend. i dunno i can mix fruit flavor and beer but only a little bit, its got to be pretty subtle or it tastes gross to me. ive had this one sour beer i got in a variety pack sitting in my fridge for a year now havent been able to offload it to anyone lol.
Went to Breakside in Portland when I was visiting family last week. Very good. They had a sweet potato beer. It was delicious.
