I thought it was just OK. Terrapin Hi 5 is a good tropical IPA or Deschutes Fresh Squeeze (a truly amazing beer). I generally prefer the more Tropical, Citra hop based IPAs to the more Piney ones if that makes any sense.
You definitely need to try Creature Comfort's Tropicalia. One of the best IPA's I've had. Only problem is you may need to come down south to try it, ha. I live 20 minutes from the brewery and I still have a hard time finding it.
Had a Bell's Oberon and an Against The Grain 35K followed by another Bell's Oberon because Mike Shea insisted. Had to sit in a parking garage for 30 minutes before I felt okay to drive. The ATG 35K was more potent than I anticipated.
I've added a few of you on Untappd. Feel free to add me - 'evahall' Bummed I missed out on this a few weekends ago, but I plan on finally hitting up Phantom Carriage for their next bottle release. I moved to LA not too long ago. @irthesteve, do you have any LA/OC beer recs? I've mostly been hitting up Highland Park, Monkish, Smog City and The Bruery.
Welcome to LA!!!! What area are you living in? The Bruery is my all time fav, it's amazing over there. For Torrance, Monkish and Smog are excellent. Phantom Carriage is awesome, awesome, awesome. I have a special place in my heart for King Harbor as I live like, 1 mile away. I honestly am not really huge on the downtown ones (Angel City, Mumford, Arts Dist) BUT it makes for a really fun day out walking from one to another. Near the Bruery there is Noble Ale Works which is also great, ummmmmm..... yeah I suppose that's my current rundown!
You can never go wrong with the Bruery! Used to spend a lot of time in Fullerton and would always make it a priority to have a few beers there.
I was hoping to get some KBS today, but everyone/everywhere I talked to today told me they probably wouldn't have it until Monday. It's been pretty consistent for April 1st for the last couple years around here.
Where in NC are you? And yes, Ponysaurus is fantastic! A lot of their stuff has started showing up in my local bottle shop recently. Can't wait to find time to go check out the brewery. Love Tropicalia! Have you tried CC's Cosmik Debris yet? I have a friend bringing a couple packs up here for me next week. Cannot wait to try it.
Is it available outside the Atlanta area? My wife travels down there for work a lot but I'm not sure how she could get it back to Pittsburgh. I travel to the Outer Banks for vacation every summer. Do they have it in North Carolina?
From what I've heard, you rarely see any Creature Comforts beer on shelves outside of Athens and Atlanta. Even there, most go quickly on the shelves. They definitely do not distribute here to NC yet. If the wife can find it on her work travels, best thing would be just to ship it back home. Shouldn't cost too much to ship a few packs of cans.
Having a lunch time beer. Went with a Tradecraft sour Ale with Blackberries by Black Market Brewing Company. Holy Hell this is sour.
Right now I'm really into Golden Monkey, also I love anything from Ommegang Brewery, but I like trying new beer all the time.
That blackberry sour ale sounds awesome. Never heard of Black Market Brewing though, do they bottle/can?
It was incredible. So many delicious beers. DFPF was a standout along with the collab with Other Half "Street Fruit" Because it's not amazing, lol. It's a solid beer, but nothing special. I feel the exact opposite about Clown Shoes. All of their beers taste the same and their Stouts are always too thin. Love me some Tropicalia. Athena is great as well. We have a friend in the area that sends us a case every summer. Really looking forward to it!
Ballast Point from San Fran has some really good IPA's and pale ales. I personally like the El Dorado Watermelon Double IPA
Really? I don't think much of their stuff is too thin at all. Interesting! Had this the other day and struggled to make it through the bottle. I found it to be sickeningly sweet.
I like Sculpin and Grapefruit Sculpin is a top rated beer. I just don't want to pay 60 bucks for a case. Might find a few friends to split it with.
Yea the Grunion Pale Ale is good too. Ill agree a little expensive, but they sell great in this little coffee shop I manage. I get it for $54 for a case of cans, which is fairly high.
