Mostly new-ish. I wasn't very active on the AP forums, looking forward to posting more here. @irthesteve Thanks for the recommendations! I've saved that and I'll absolutely be reporting back.
Never really got into posting in the beer thread back on the ap.net forums for some reason. Hopefully that changes on this forum.
That's awesome, as of right now our beer is throughout the apartment in one of two fridges or stacked in a closet. A one bedroom in Brooklyn is not conducive to a stocked beer cellar, but we make it work. We have over 250 beers cellared at the moment, which sounds insane writing that out. Moving to a house in a few weeks so the cellar pics will come!
I'm terrible when it comes to cellaring beer. I've maybe got 20 beer in my cabinet, but I find it hard to resist drinking them.
I'm not good at cellaring either, hah. Also I am just scared to do it because I don't know the right temperature or how to get the right temperature to do so
This is the one beer I get every year that I don't drink right away.... since you have to let it age.
Yeah, I am definitely spoiled living this close to Asheville. However, I have yet to go to Sierra Nevada up there. I've heard all about it though and need to find time. Its just hard to convince myself to drive out to their location, when I can just go park near Wicked Weed and easily walk to 5-6 other breweries from there. Next time you're in the area, I definitely recommend a trip to the Morganton/Hickory area for breweries if you have time. Going to Fonta Flora alone is worth it. But 3 blocks down the street is the original brewhouse and tasting room for Catawba Brewing (they've since opened a 2nd location in Asheville). And in Hickory, there is the well-known OHB as well as a newly opened auxiliary brewhouse and tasting room for Blowing Rock Brewing. Just a few miles north of Hickory is Howard's Brewing and Granite Falls Brewing as well. Thanks dude. 250 is amazing for an apartment! At any given time I have between 70-100 different beers, but I usually have multiple bottles or cans of each of those.
I mentioned this to @Jason Tate privately, but wanted to bring up an idea to all now that we have a good flow of new users: A Chorus.fm craft beer club. The idea is that we trade local crafts with those that are interested but live too far away to find and enjoy them. For example: TW Pitchers' Brewing Company's Snake Bite Crisp Apple Cider Shandy is only available regionally in San Francisco. I want to try it, but don't have the money for a plane ticket. [User X] can nip on down to his local beer cave and ship one over. [User Y] can ship something local of interest back in the same packaging. The logistics would be tricky because glass bottles of alcohol can be difficult, but I want to get a general idea of interest to see who would be into participating before drafting up shipping instructions and what not. Who's in?
I'd be down. All I really drink is NW beers so it'd be nice to get some others. And I've shipped my homebrew before. Just gotta be discreet.
It's a great idea, but I'll have twins (as in two babies) some time in the next few weeks so my beer budget is about to drop significantly.
@jaimej 250 bottles? What square footage is your one bedroom? My girlfriend and I have a one bedroom but it's third floor so cellaring isn't plausible in the summer. Right now her coworker is storing three cases of beer for us. Also I am down for a beer club.
~700 sq ft? One of our closets is stacked floor to ceiling with cases of beer. Both our shippers are full, and there are other boxes stacked to the side in the entryway. Definitely cannot wait til we close on our house!
Yea, as long as the liquid of a broken bottle is contained, they'll still ship a box. Any liquid issuing from a box means they'll just throw it away. I'm hoping to get a rough idea of cost of shipping per bottle. I'll post that when I get it figured out. Maybe if we ship a cd or two with it we can call it Media Mail. Heh. That would be awesome! The more that are down to participate, the more options that open up to everyone. I'm going to PM you for some pointers. Congratulations! A Ohio craft of your choice on me after the little ones have arrived.
If it's not terribly expensive, I may be interested. Plus, I live in Florida so I could fulfill all your Jai Alai needs.
I would love to trade beers. Where's Joe (jbaseball) at? We struck up a convo on untapped and he never got back to me about what he'd like
