Curmudgeon is so good. One of my favorites as well.

Sounds good, I really want to try Dirty Bastard as well as KBS and Backwoods Bastard, but at this point I'll try anything from them

One of the more all-around satisfying beers I've had. If I'm just going to drink one or two, that's always a good one to have in the fridge.

I'm a fan of all of those. The Backwoods Bastard is some heavy, boozy stuff. I went on an evening river cruise one time early last fall and happily nursed a bottle of that for the full hour.

When we first got Founders in Florida a couple years ago we didn't get much beyond the regular releases for the first few months, but once we started getting them they became very easy to get ahold of. I could get things with ease that my family in MI had to get on a waiting list for, so hopefully it works out that way for you as well.

That's nuts. Which beers were your family members on waiting lists for?

I guess it was more limits and a reserve list than a true waiting list, but I remember my dad being limited to 1 Backwoods Bastard at one point while we had packs and packs of them sitting on our shelves, and something similar for Double Trouble. That was a few years ago so it may not be as bad now. I know my cousin was really excited to come across Mango Magnifico a week or two ago and we have plenty on the shelf here. They're in Detroit though.

Gotcha. I guess I've always gotten pretty lucky where I've lived in Michigan, because great beer has always been very readily accessible. I'm guessing KBS is still hard to find where you are, though?

Probably the only Founders beer that you really have to work for here, but it's not overly hard. Most places get it but have a 1-2 bottle limit. As long as you go somewhere the day of it's fairly easy to get some.

Nice. Yeah, I've never actually seen that one on the shelves here. Completely lucked into getting it last week. And kegs of it last like a night at any bar or restaurant in the area. Probably just too well known.

Did a nice little collection of IPAs today. Mostly stuff I've had recently and had an extra of (Jai Alai, White Oak Jai Alai, Zombie Dust, Funky Buddha More Moro), but we also added Cigar City Florida Man, Tampa Bay Brewing Brewing Company Old Elephant Foot, and Bells Two Hearted Ale and Hopslam.

Drinking some Toppling Goliath during the basketball games tonight (I have some psuedoSue leftover and also picked up a 4 pack of Golden Nugget), and planning on finishing off the other random beers we had tomorrow night after work (Ballast Point Big Eye, Sculpin, Pineapple Sculpin, Grapefruit Sculpin, and Dogfish Head 90 Minute). It's been a good week for IPAs around here!

  11. Oh man, so many of those sound good! I need to go grab some stuff for the week today.

Had a 22 oz bottle of Ballast Point's Indra Kunindra last night. Not bad, but the curry flavor and the cayenne are way up front

They were so good. I was really impressed by the More Moro and Florida Man I had today. Had both last year and wasn't blown away by either, but both tasted pretty damn good this time around.

I never had Dark Horse when I lived up north, but I've had a bit of their stuff over the last couple years when my dad comes down and brings beer. Really solid stuff.

I just worked out my first ever actual trade with my cousins for some Trillium and other assorted beers. I'm excited to see how this goes.

Pretty sure that Two Hearted will always be my favorite IPA (and a top-five beer overall).

It's so good. We had a decent amount of special release and/or hard to get IPAs so we went nuts grabbing a few that we just like to throw in for comparison's sake. Two Hearted is always a favorite.

Two Hearted is the one beer I can always count on being in the fridge at my in-laws' house, and I fucking love them for that. Haha

Hmm, maybe I need to try it again. Had a Two Hearted a while back and did not like it at all :-/

I read somewhere that Bell's early shipments to California were old and bad, or something, so maybe that's it? It was right when the started distributing here

Huh, maybe. What didn't you like about it?

I didn't write down any tasting notes, and it was probably a year ago, but I only gave it a 2.5 on untapped :-o

Dammit Steve! Though you said you're not really an IPA guy, right?

it's true. IPAs never really get over a 4 rating from me, hah. I like double and triple IPAs more though. Who knows, I'll remember to give another try if I see one again

    @FurtherFromSky Moderator

Ha, well I hope you like it more next time you try it. I think it's pretty consistently rated as one of the best IPAs in the world, but my brother is also not an IPA guy and he doesn't like it at all either, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that you got a decent batch and still didn't enjoy it.
