Oh, nice that's perfect. Hopefully you get some. It's always worth getting up early to go grab, for sure. I happend to stroll into my bottle shop to see if my buddy was working, but he wasn't. Was then offered one of six cans they had of BA Ten Fidy. Told my other friend I would drink it with him because he got there 15 minutes later and it was sold out already I did gab the Death by Coconut too. I'll let you know. Probably drink that Monday.
My dad just got into town, so we broke into our NE beer shipment. I have to say, Born Yesterday definitely holds up with the lower tier Tree House stuff. I like it a little more than Alter-Ego and a little less than Bright.
Dogfish Beer for Breakfast was super dope. I also got a Dogfish Siracusa last night which was great as well
I need to grab me a bottle of Beer for Breakfast and the World Wide Stout. Hope I can find them soon.
I decorated my Christmas tree and drank Festivus last night. You could say I'm feelin pretty holly jolly
Oddside is having a tap takeover down the road from me on Wednesday, and I'm very excited. Bourbon Aged Mayan Mocha, Rye Hipster, Hipster Brunch, Hazels Nuts, it'll be a good night.
Fuck yeah. Lucky you your trip coincided with like the best HF lineup of all time, Petit Mutant at Alchemist, and pretty much a perfect Tree House day. DS truly hangs right up there with Good Morning and I'd take the other two over just about everything else in their lineup. I hope one of those HF growlers is Society and Solitude 4... Just traded for a Birth of Tragedy myself! Going to be a really good holiday week for brews.
Oh yeah, we got really lucky with the releases! I was hoping for Good Morning but DS is a fine substitute! And yes two of the growlers we got were Society and Solitude 9 (that's what they're at now). We also had a bottle of 2014 Flora Cherry when we were at Hill that was incredible. Probably the closest to a Cantillon that I've had from a U.S. brewery.
Oh man, I'd love to try that. I've had Blueberry and Blueberry/Black Currant and both were phenomenal. I've loved HF since my first visit a few years ago but they have elevated themselves to absolutely out of this world now that the taproom is open. I've basically accepted that any time I go up there from here on out I'll be spending something crazy on whatever the special cellar on site bottle of the day is. Others have caught up to them on the IPA front but their saisons and barrel aged stuff are still running circles around most to my taste.
I work for a beer distributor. Last week 10 Barrell was at our meeting, and passed out some of their Winter Ale/Cucumber Crush/Pub Beer. Winter Ale was good. Then Friday there was a whole pallet of Track 7 Panic for anyone who wanted any. I took 8.
Picked up a Marshal Zhukov's Penultimate Push last week. It's one of the worst smelling beers I've ever smelled, but thankfully it tastes great. The coffee taste goes perfectly with the MZ taste.
Had the Ben & Jerry's cookie dough one tonight, it wasn't bad and actually tasted like cookie dough hah.. not sure I'd ever have more than one though
Oh nice, might try to revisit this thread semi-regularly. My local bar got a keg of the De Proefbrouwerij/Trillium collaboration saison and it was pretty great. Do we talk homebrewing in this thread too? Or is there a separate thread? How did everyone's pumpkin ales turn out this year?
I almost bought the Avery vanilla Stout today. Ended up getting a prairie Christmas bomb and a bottle of hazels nuts. Going to grab a bottle of Lizard of Koz soon hopefully. Not sure where to go for BCBS Friday morning. My usual place isn't selling it until later in the day to make it fair to the people at work so now I'm nervous about getting it.
It's funny -- I've always done a big Thanksgiving beer share (bottle share isn't fair because it's really just two of us). It started out as the best of whatever we could get our hands on, and evolved into just a great selection of beer that we stopped trying that hard to get a few years ago and somehow gets better each year (I've been very blessed when it comes to friends/family access to beer). We've always focused in on stouts as that seems to be most brewery' s extra special release, but this year will be very IPA focused. It's kind of funny how tastes evolve like that.
The Oddside Tap Takeover was excellent. Tried the following: Hipster Brunch Stout Rye Hipster Brunch Stout Bourbon Barrel Aged Mayan Mocha Hazels Nuts Mokka Munt Rye Sweet Potato Soufflé The Mayan mocha was incredible. Huge flavor. Hazels Nuts was also excellent. Overall, a great time.
Hmm, hope you can snag some BCBS. I grabbed a Lizard of Koz on Tuesday and it better be good at $20 for the bomber. The Avery Vanilla Bean Stout is one that I highly recommend. I was the opposite; I had it again recently and didn't much care for it. The Sweet Potato Souffle was very weird to me. I was expecting a stout, but it wasn't and it was just weird. Wasn't a big fan. I've heard the Rye Hipster Brunch is on point though. Need to find that around town somewhere. Mayan Mocha is always a solid beer but the barrel aged version takes it to another level.
I drank a Mayan today as well and it was wild. I've had the non-BA version before and didn't really care for it as I recall, but this one has so much going on its crazy.
I'll probably end up picking up the Vanilla Bean next week. The Rye Hipster was good, it's pretty boozy right now and might need some time, but it warms you right up. The souffle was strange, it wasn't bad, just extremely different than most beers I've had.
