Hey man, we all can't be like you Supporter

I'm heading down to DC tomorrow. Any localish brews I should look out for?

Go to Church Key/Birch & Barley and The Sovereign. Some good beer bars in DC, get a lot of good stuff because DC distribution laws are dumb. Bluejacket is a cool local brewery.

Im sure it's not that bad but if you were feeling it you could probably raise a stink for a discount

Yeah I knowww... But I do know that Stone themselves try to not let them be sold after the date

Music, a steady riot in my soul. Prestigious

There's a sports bar by me that my buddies were trying to convince me was awesome because they had a good selection of craft beer. I'll give the place credit that they were trying, but when the same craft is on tap for 6+ months and it's a seasonal, it's probably not working.

A pub in my town has Dogfish 120 minute on their draft list currently so I tried it out for the first time last night and holy heck that was extreme. The taste of the alcohol was so overwhelming for me that I couldn't taste anything but that and it made each sip really difficult especially towards the end. 20% ABV or whatever it may be was just too much for me to enjoy. Definitely going to stick to the 90 in the future.

I would recommend trying one that's a few years old if you ever get the chance. A bit of age on it really dials back the alcohol bite and it tastes closer to a normal barleywine than a big over the top, boozy IPA.

I mean, I know why they don't just keep it at dogfish head until it's 18+ months old, but still. I really wish they wouldn't send that shit out fresh.

I had 120 for the first time the other night and loved it, really loved everything about it. Had 90 minute a few days ago and found it pretty boring honestly, nothing really jumped out as unique to me, pretty run of the mill in my opinion.

I've had two. The Spontan Basil was ridiculously good.

I am beyond amped that a Mikeller brewery/bar is opening up in LA early next year. AND it's right near 2-3 great music venues. I project to spend a lot of time there once it's open, everything of theirs I have had has been supurb

Gin Barrel Nocturn Chrysalis? Ugh I bet that is amazing. I kinda feel weird about those "top of the year" beer lists. Sometimes they're terrible, this one is pretty decent though. It'd be interesting to hear what everyone's top 10 beers were for this year.

I probably tried way less than others in this thread, but I like your ideaa! I'm going to look through everything I rated on untapped this year and see what my favorites were. I don't think they will all be new to 2016, but I'll make sure they were new to me

I have 1372 check-ins so far in 2016 (holy shit) and gave out 64 5 star ratings. Narrowing that down to just the stuff that came out for the first time in 2016 (as far as I know) gives us these 35:

Angry Chair Brewing - No Promises, German Chocolate Cupcake Stout, Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake Stout
Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits - Bourbon Barrel Aged Victory At Sea (Heaven Hills Bourbon)
Carton Brewing Company - Cafe Y' Churro
Hill Farmstead Brewery - Flora (w/ Blueberries, Black Currants & Raspberries), Madness & Civilization #6
Kane Brewing Company - Fifth, A Night To End All Dawns (Double Barrel Aged Red Wine & Bourbon), Morning Bell (Bourbon Barrel Aged), Port Omna Coconut, Holy Nights
Side Project Brewing - Bleuet du Fermier (Blend #1)
The Rare Barrel - Gifted Branch
Tired Hands Brewing Company - SaisonHands Batch #11, Milkshake IPA (Mandarin-Bergamot), Lil' Lady, Milkshake IPA (Double Watermelon), Box of Splintered Rain, Zucchini Bread Milkshake IPA, Eyes Closed & Open, Magomago Tagotago (Double Dry Hopped W/ Simcoe & Galaxy), Papaya Milkshake, Audrey, Milkshake IPA (Pina Colada), Milkshake IPA (Blackberry), Milkshake (Chocolate Raspberry), Only Void (Single Origin Ethiopian Coffee), Rustic Pentagram, Imperial Milkshake, Milkshake IPA (Passion Fruit), Today Will Be A Good Day, Milkshake IPA (Cherry/Raspberry)
Toppling Goliath Brewing - pseudoSue (with Mosaic)
Trillium Brewing Company - Double Dry Hopped Scaled

The real standouts for me there are Kane double barrel ANTEAD and Fifth, all the Angry Chairs, Carton Cafe Y Churro and Tired Hands Rustic Pentagram.

Awesome list, with zero that I have tried haha! On paper I would be so into all of those, uncertain about the milkshake IPAs, but would definitely want to try. I've had many iterations of Victory at Sea, but yet to have it BBA

EDIT: is there a quick way to look at all 2016 check ins? How did you get that exact number?

I ended up just arranging my check ins by rating since 5s are very rare for me to enter, then looked at the once that I checked into in 2016 for the first time. These are my top picks, six 5 ratings, and my 4 favorite of the 4.75 ratings

The Bruery - Poterie (100% Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels)
Phantom Carriage & Cascade Brewing - Ingmeyer Bergman (Blend of BBA sour Quadruple w/ Meyer Lemon Zest and Sour Blonde)
Fremont Brewing - Coffee Cinnamon Bourbon Abdominable (Bourbon barrel aged imperial winter ale with cinnamon and coffee)
The Bruery - PB & J Black Tuesday (Black Tuesday with peanut butter powder and boysenberry puree)
Prairie Artisan Ales - Bomb! (Imperial stout aged on Nordaggio's espresso beans, chocolate, vanilla beans, and ancho chile peppers)
Avery Brewing - Chai High (Ale with spiced chai tea added)

Kane Brewing - One Thousand Four Hundred Sixty (Blended Belgian dark ale w/ Belgian Quad racked In rye barrels)
The Bruery - Melange No. 15 (Ale aged in bourbon barrels with walnuts, cacao nibs, vanilla beans and lactose added)
Smog City - Snugglebug (Sour Blonde with Raspberry and Boysenberry)
Bottle Logic Brewing - Ground State (Stout brewed with chocolate and cocoa nibs and aged in bourbon barrels with vanilla and coffee beans)
