Just had this tonight and wow, this is wayyy better than the rest of this Born Yesterday series, and I think the series has been great up until now. This one is fantastic. It's not quite NEIPA -- it doesn't have the soft mouthfeel, and it's a bit maltier, but this is definitely on the way. God damn good!
Had my first Founder's Breakfast Stout of the season last night at a show. So damn good. I'm excited for stout and porter season.
Picked up Shorts Sticky Icky today. Tried to snag a six pack of Born Yesterday, but the only place I saw it at was trying to sell the 2015 version as this years and that's shady as hell
Had a Wild Docta' imitation Dr Pepper. it was alright but I think this whole alcohol-soda thing isn't for me. I'd rather just drink beer.
Okay so I've had Three Philosophers, Commodore, and Hop Hunter so far, and they were all good. Hop Hunter isn't really what I was expecting, I thought it would be more citrus-y, but I actually still liked it. Commodore is a solid stout, lots of roasted flavor, but I thought it was a tiny bit thin. Three Philosophers was awesome - fruity and chocolatey, but you can definitely still tell it's a Belgian-style beer. First quad I've ever tried so definitely gonna have to try some more.
Hitting up the Other Half/Trillium Collab release tomorrow. DIPA with Motueka, Wai-iti, Galaxy, Topaz, Citra and Citra Lupulin Powder. Really hoping it's not going to be a total shit show hah. Any NYers making it out?
You should seek out Rochefort 10, probably my favorite Quad. St. Bernardus abt 12 is also one you should look into, easy to find and rivals the best of the style.
Yeah, that sucks. I also hate going into bottle shops and seeing Enjoy By bottles that are out of date. Like, it's the fucking name of the beer. Get that shit out of there. I grabbed a bottle of Sticky. Gonna get into it this weekend. (your package will be sent soon, I promise. Been a busy week.)
Oh I know it's gonna be ridiculous, just wishful thinking hah. Most releases I'm there around 6:30-7, but I feel this one is going to be extra-special stupid.
My barber normally has about an hour or so long wait. They've just stuck a fridge filled wil craft beer into their waiting room. Get to drink free beer while getting my hair cut. This is great.
Went to the last two releases so we skipped this one, had a couple friends go who got us some of the beers though! How did you fare? AM? Damn, I haven't gone that early to an Other Half release in years. Since they've been releasing 4 beers these days it lasts usually until 12-1pm. A month ago we got there at 12:30pm and still got a full allotment.
Goodbye Pumpkin Beers. Hello Winter Beers. Looking forward to: Deschutes Jubelale New Belgium Accumulation (Just bought 6-pack yesterday) Thirsty Dog !2 Dogs of Christmas Great Divide Hibernation Ale Southern Tier Old Man Winter Bell's Winter White Great Lakes Xmas Ale (although I think it's a tad overrated) Sam Adams Winter Lager
I got there at 6 and was about 150 back from the start of the line, got my full allotment. One of my friends got there at 3am, which I think is absurd. It was far easier a couple years ago, hah. Personally, I like getting there early (or used to) because of hanging out in line with a bunch of people from the NYC beer community, opening beers, etc. I also like to get a head start on the BQE traffic going home, so getting in and out by 10:30-11AM is ideal for me. Also, I think Like Whoa is amazing. Did you try it yet?
Wow that's a lot of people for that early. I don't mind hanging in line either but I would get antsy for that long! That said, my friend went at 10:30am and was in and out with no line at all, got lucky this time! Haven't tried it yet. I have one on my desk my friend from work brought in, and we have a 4 pack coming from another friend we haven't seen yet. Will probably open one right away and space out the rest. I always like to see how it ages in a week or two.
My barbershop in Halifax did this up until right before I moved there, then some wet blanket complained and the city made them stop, even though they weren't breaking any laws
My barbershop had yuengling in tap during the wait which was fine because it was free. Now it's blue moon so I don't even bother.
This is my friend's plan. He's about to finish barber school and his plan is to someday open a barbershop with like 3-5 taps of great craft beer, as well as some great local, craft coffee since he used to be barista and has been a bartender.
Your friend has the right idea! They did move the line super fast and opened an hour early, which was awesome. I do the same thing, especially with Trillium. I feel their 'golden window' is around the two/three week area. That's when I think their IPAs are drinking the best.
Went to a place called Pivovarsky klub, and just chose the first beer I saw, it was a locally brewed one.
