I stopped by Whole Foods and they do carry Jeni's but not the Xocoveza or at least not yet. I did pickup some beers to try though, which I'm excited about! Brewery Ommegang Three Philosophers Orval Ballast Point Commodore Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter 2 Towns Bright Cider Also I had the Alesmith IPA and Green Flash Soul Style and wasn't particularly into either. I'm wondering if the Alesmith might've been old since it wasn't very hoppy, but there's no date on the bottle :/
Orval is great because the freshest orval we get here (in Michigan at least) tends to be four months old. But the difference between an Orval at like 6 months and one at like 12 months is great. Such a good beer.
Yeah, mine is from December 2015. I'm really excited to try it, but I'll try to hold off for a while!
Was anyone in here able to grab a ticket for the Dinner release? I tried right when tickets went up for sale and like 4 times it said tickets were available but when I tried to add them to my cart they were all of a sudden unavailable. A little frustrating but understandable when so many people were trying for only 600 tickets.
I've never had a Stone beer I disliked, so I'm going to have to locate this. A bunch of places in New York and Brooklyn sell her product and also there's a place that carries her product in Howell, NJ, which is the next town over from my hometown, so I'll have to look for it.
It's definitely worth it, one of my favorite beers. Such a unique flavor and is really comforting/soothing for the holidays hah
hopcat near me had their wood and wild festival which is a two day event where they tap about 50 barrel aged beers of all kinds -- spirit-aged beers, sours, etc -- and they got one of the three kegs of Rodenbach's Alexander that are in the state of Michigan and good god is that a great beer. Sour cherry flanders red. It was a bit sweeter than I anticipated but wonderful jammy cherry that faded into a great sour, acidic finish. superb beer and glad I got to try it.
I turned a couple people on to Two-Hearted on Saturday night. Made the mistake of drinking 4 of them before indulging in a series of apple pie shots and beer pong rounds following the Cubs win and that was not a fun morning after lol.
If anyone can't pick up Backwoods Bastard in their area, let me know. My bottle shop got metric fuck ton of it.
I meant to hold on to it for a bit, but now it's just seeing how long I can hold on to it. It's a fine beer though.
Ah, okay. The "collecting dust" part made me think you didn't like it. For me, I might like Backwoods more than KBS. Definitely a bit less of a hype train than KBS.
Backwoods is always excellent. There's a bar in Royal Oak that's going to have a three year vertical of it on tap next week, I might head there to try it.
Just found out today after getting allergy tested that I'm allergic to yeast. Not even wheat, just yeast. Really a bummer, not that I'm gonna cut out beer entirely, but at least a decent amount at the beginning to see how it plays
That sucks. Is it sensitive enough that even filtered beer gives you issues or is it mostly just unfiltered/bottle conditioned stuff?
I'm not entirely sure. I also tested positive for a soy allergy which the doctor said likely has contributed to me feeling shitty as well. I guess I'll do my own sort of research and trials from here on out to see which sorts of beers affect me and which don't, provided I cut out yeast and soy and can isolate it. I really don't wanna give up beer lol.
I have to pick up some Backwoods. I've been drinking a fair amount of Breakfast Stout lately, with the weather dropping on Long Island it's been real nice sitting outside and enjoying them. Easily one of my all time favorite non BA stouts.
I feel like Breakfast stout was even better this year than last. I'm excited for Founders barrel aged series next year. They just revealed the first in the series, and it's pretty much Cerise aged in Bourbon maple barrels. I've heard a lot of talk about CBS coming back to bottles next December in the series too.
We have 4 bottles from each of the past 3 years (sans 2016 yet). Hopefully going to do a vert next year at some point. It ages extremely well so definitely hold on to yours!
Yeah I'm going to do a 2013-14-15-16 Backwoods taste test as soon as I grab a bottle of this year's and convince at least one of my beer inclined friends to take this epic journey with me to flavortown
