I know nothing about the British vs. US versions apparently. I only know that my Rubber Soul starts with Drive My Car.
The problem is that I literally don't know which ones they are. I only know what Spotify shows me... hahaha
Seems like half the time the US release has a different title if that helps. Like With The Beatles equivalent US release seems to be Meet the Beatles as far as I can tell
Listening to A Hard Day's Night. Can't Buy Me Love, on listening to it fresh, low-key affected a lot of my views of love and capitalism huh. This one feels like it diminishes the straight rock and roll influence in favor of the folk and pop, I dig it
Reading about their chord progressions and testing them out and like half of these I would've never have thought of bc I don't tend to utilize some of these chords like I should. Jesus Christ.
I mean, Beatles for Sale is cool and all, but it feels slightly like a regression after the HUGE breakout album A Hard Days Night, and for some reason they go back to half cover songs/half original. The back half of the album is a little weak by Beatles standards as well.
Aw damn hard days night was so good too. A regression wouldn't be in their favor but I mean they were also so prolific that it probably didn't even matter
plot twist: all the black metal riffs are hidden on the tape loops of revolution 9 and that was the cause of my terror
I've always viewed it as their exhaustion album, where they were too tired of being in Beatlemania. So they jam through some covers, but then the originals take a BIG step forward. Lennon responds to the exhaustion with misery ("I'm a Loser", "No Reply" and "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party") and McCartney smiles through it ("I'll Follow the Sun"). In a way, it kind of set the precedent for who The Beatles were.
New is such an incredible record! Paul made a funny joke at the concert. He said "whenever we play the Beatles, you all sing along and all of your phones light up. You can always tell when we play something new. The crowd becomes a black hole" haha
Honestly "New" is one of my favorite songs of his, period. I feel like he'd been listening to some Brian Wilson playlists.
New is incredible! I think that’s part of his routine to say that but probably true all the same. I was really hoping for another instalment in the archive series this year. Flaming Pie would have been fantastic. I’d also love to get “Chaos and Creation” and “Driving Rain” too but I don’t suppose that seems likely at the minute.
Who wants to join me in some witchcraft or something because my priority #1 at this point is honestly just protecting Macca.
I go through a beatles kick a few times a year. Their catalogue is insanely good. Is there a “bad” song? Even their more goofy songs like why don’t we do it in the road is pretty fucking awesome.
