Do You Want To Know a Secret might be my favorite song that I've heard on here so far wow that was stellar
yeah, twist and shout definitely holds up, great vocals from john. love how snappy the guitars are in that song, and again, john is really shouting the whole time, and he sells it. would've never known he was sick from just listening to him.
There's something to be said for the American Rubber Soul and Beatles '65 had a cool vibe. But really the U.K. versions are the way to go
For as long as I have been listening to the band, I have never listened to US versions of the albums haha. I just have never had the desire to listen to anything other than the original original
The American Rubber Soul leans into the folky thing more by cutting "Drive My Car" and opening with probably the single best Beatles song: "I've Just Seen a Face"
also this probably already was said, or we're past it BUT re: mono vs. stereo the mono mixes were the "true mixes" for all of the albums up to The Beatles since most people didn't have equipment that played in stereo, the format was seen as a novelty, so the beatles spent most of their time perfecting the mono mixes, with stereo as an afterthought The Beatles is a toss-up in the mono vs. stereo debate, but Abbey Road and Let It Be are only available in stereo, as that was the primary format at that time
This is definitely true Rubber Soul is the only album of theirs that I'm mixed on American vs. British version as I like how the American version REALLY plays up how there was a nice back and forth between them and Dylan as well as Simon & Garfunkel
I'll note that I should listen to both versions re: Rubber Soul, but definitely gonna listen to the British version first
None of the albums I downloaded have I want to hold your hand huh weird. Just pressed play on with the Beatles, this first song rips
the segue from "Back in the USSR" into "Dear Prudence" is one of my favorite album sequencing moments ever
No worries. How do you feel about this one? Considering getting meet the Beatles too bc I want to hold your hand has nostalgic rock band memories attached
one of their more underrated efforts imo a lot of people see it as a quick follow-up/sequel to Please Please Me but I think it stands on its own pretty well. I actually like the covers on this LP a lot more than most of the originals, particularly their version of "You Really Got a Hold on Me" I also love their "Till There Was You" cover but that's mostly because I have a sentimental attachment to The Music Man
Oh that ones a cover? Yeah, I'm really into Til There Was You and this collection does not seem rushed at all. I'm surprised at how cohesive it sounds considering.
Please Mister Postman is cool, I think the harmonies on this one are on point and the lead vocals are sufficiently emotional enough to not make it seem cloying
