The documentary was to capture them record an album live instead of overdubs for the first time. The "concert" was supposed to be the grand unveiling of the songs before the album release. They only played like 4 songs on the roof, but played each song like 3 times to compare which takes were best to put on the album.
i have not finished get back so i definitely don't know what i'm talking about so i appreciate being corrected still, let it be, barely a real album
no reply is a great song, but i’d rather listen to don’t pass me by, let alone like a dozen other songs more than that also eight days a week is the best off that album
No Reply, Eight Days a Week, and I'll Follow the Sun automatically make Beatles for Sale better than With the Beatles for me, which is great but doesn't have an original that reaches those highs for me (not even among its standout opening few songs).
maybe i’m the biggest with the beatles fan on the site but that’s insane to me haha it won’t be long, all my loving, don’t bother me, roll over, hold me tight, you really got a hold on me, i wanna be your man and money??? cmon!!!
after watching the doc and reading a bit more, I listened to a somewhat adjusted Let It Be that contained ONLY the songs finished during the sessions, so it was: Two Of Us Dig A Pony Let It Be I Got A Feeling One After 909 The Long and Winding Road For You Blue Get Back Don't Let Me Down which honestly is a completely capable album on it's own and was enough music to realistically release as an album. I left out Maggie May and Dig It for being partials, left out Across The Universe for being an old song and left out I Me Mine since they didn't finish it until 1970
"You Won't See Me" is soooooo good you can really hear them trying to do a 60s tamla/motown thing on it
Has everyone listened to Let It Be Naked? I always consider this the definitive version of the album, and has replaced the original version in my collection since it came out 15 or so years ago. Honestly it wasnt until I revisited the original Let It Be after watching Get Back that I realized Don't Let Me Down didnt make the original final cut, or that there was so much strings added to Long and Winding Road. Also having Get Back as the closer instead of the opener sounds so weird to me now.
“I’ll Follow the Sun”, “I’m a Loser” and “I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party” are my favorite 3 on the album. Which is a testament to their greatness, because “No Reply” and “Eight Days a Week” rip
It’s dull. Spector was right. Paul was boring (on this subject). “The Long and Winding Road” is a snooze without a little melodrama
For me, he brought out greatness in great artists. Leonard Cohen and The Beatles and Harrison and The Ronettes got a little extra magic from him. But left to his own devices he could repeat himself too often and let his productions get thin.
yeah the wall of sound is just, for me personally, something that kind of ruined pop music for me. just not a technique i enjoy at all
I mostly agree with this but I think Paul’s letter to Spector was correct keep the orchestra just turn them down a little
