I can't remember if there's a separate thread for it here, but the Sgt. Pepper's remix is incredible. Plz plz plzzz whole catalog remix. I have the mono box already but I would buy a remix box day 1.
I honestly can't decide if I want to read this, but any list with that worst below "Bad Boy", "Revolution 9" and "Wild Honey Pie"...
To me it sounds very faithful to the material, but also much more like it was recorded in the present day. I feel the same about the non-overly mashup parts of Love, too. I hate this list of songs, lol. The writer(s?) really does not like the early Beatles.
The present day part is what I hate because it wasn't produced or arranged to have that much space. All the energy seems gone to me. Songs that used to leap out of the speakers just kind of sit there. Fascinating, as someone who wants to pick apart the arrangements. But the overall effect made me sad.
Very interesting to hear that opinion - to me it's totally a fidelity thing, and I don't think the energy suffers much from it. I'm not always a huge fan of the "modern take/mix" on classic songs, but there is something about the way the original recordings sound that make what's essentially the audio equivalent of an HD version not only cool but also arguably an improvement (imo). Happiness is a Warm Gun at 111. Top 10 at worst.
Literally all I need to know about this list. Haha Personal favorite Beatles song though: "I've Just Seen a Face"
I actually just finally made my girlfriend watch Help! for the first time and have therefore been on a mid-Beatles kick hard of late.
In My Life probably my favourite song, gun to the head. One of the hardest bands to pick a favourite song from though, because of the variety in the discography. Very hard to compare one with another.
Ha! The audacity of ranking the medley as the medley, and not putting it top 10. we doing this: 5) You Never Give Me Your Money 4) Lovely Rita 3) Happiness is a Warm Gun 2) Strawberry Fields Forever 1) She Said, She Said
My top 10 would be(and these could change daily) I've Just Seen A Face I Want You(She's So Heavy) Something While My Guitar Gently Weeps Tomorrow Never Knows Dear Prudence Eleanor Rigby Yesterday Within You Without You She's Leaving Home
Yeah, I could consider putting either side 2 medley at the very top of the list. The horn reprise of money in Carry That Weight is the best moment in the catalog.
Certainly up there. One of the truly wonderful moments of Beatles discovery: realizing they were trading solos in "The End" and that I could tell who was playing which.
no particular order 1. A Day In The Life 2. I've Just Seen A Face 3. In My Life 4. Eleanor Rigby 5. Help I'd say my least favorite is Drive My Car and it's not bad just inane
I'm gonna say something positive tomorrow but I will say now that there's no song I hate more in this world than revolution 9. I heard it once in my life ever when I was a kid and it filled me with such terror that I literally ran out of the room and I haven't listened to it since. It's super vivid in my memory.
Know what song is super underrated? "I'm Only Sleeping". Something about the shaggy way it kinda shambles together just works in a very modern way.
