REALLY excited for the doc, I actually never watched Let It Be, so I'm gonna try to watch that soon just to have that part of history in my head

I've always been a pretty casual fan outside of always loving Revolver.. Once every long while though I'll go through their albums while I'm doing other things and enjoy what I'm listening to but then just move on without much thought...

Earlier this week I thought to myself "have I even listened to Abbey Road or the White Album all the way through? Looking through the tracklist(s) I realized there was so much that wasn't familiar to me..

Well anyways I've been obsessed with Abbey Road for the past week. "Golden Slumbers/Carry The Weight" (I am counting them as one) is one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's know it's wild to hear this take in 2020 like its something new... but man... incredible shit

Gotta do the same with the white album ASAP

  7. fwiw I would love to be able to sit down with the white album for the first time again

    enjoy it

I find myself going back to that one for its wild sprawl more often than the tightly focused ones lately, tbh

  9. Honestly. It's absolutely not the album I'd use to start someone on their Beatles journey for that same reason - but it's just so damn special.

White Album is probably the one Beatles album I need to spend more time with. Love a lot of the songs on there already but there’s also a handful I haven’t listened to much.

I’ve been on a huge Beatles (and Paul) kick this year so I’m going to get on that soon. I listened to Let It Be Naked this morning and that was really cool.

Let It Be...Naked is interesting to me in an academic sort of way. But the original release is so far superior to me.

Looks incredible. I can't imagine I'm alone in this - everything about the band was so larger than life that it's easy to forget they are/were regular people. Not sure I've seen a single other thing that shows that side of the four of them more than these few minutes do.

I watched the original version of the doc a few months back and it's terrible, haha. I do not recommend it at all, except as a historical documentary

the trailer got me doing a run through the discog. band is good. the early albums are slightly messy but there's a ton of gems and then obviously the run from rubber soul to abbey road is pretty much perfect

I won't disagree with the early albums being a bit uneven.

What I will say is when I go back, I'm always surprised how much they work, given the speed at which they put stuff out and the nature of the industry back then. There's no way A Hard Day's Night and Beatles for Sale should work so well as wholes.

i don't agree beatles for sale works as a whole (it's their worst album) but I agree otherwise

    pre-sgt. peppers ranking:
rubber soul > revolver > hard days night > with the beatles > help > please please me > beatles for sale

Beatles for Sale smokes the first two albums for me. It's the only one where the covers make sense. That album sounds like a band that's tired as fuck and starting to get a little burnt, and "I'm a Loser" and "No Reply" and "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" enhance minor key vibe. So chugging through a bunch of covers because you're too burnt to write a whole record makes sense there.

    Revolver
    Rubber Soul
Help (even with the filler, the genius stuff is too good)
    A Hard Day's Night
    Beatles for Sale
    Please Please Me
    With the Beatles

With the Beatles is the only one that feels a little unnecessary to me. It only has like 3 songs I'd probably notice if the album just vanished ("I Wanna Be Your Man", "All My Loving", "It Won't Be Long")

  24. 12 albums in just 7 years is insane. When they weren’t touring, they must have just been living in the recording studio. Especially since they have so many compilations and other songs that were also recorded during that short lifespan. So crazy.
