The big talk scene in episode 9 left me a blubbering mess. As a son of two addicts, Donna’s scenes hit me like a ton of bricks because she reminds me a lot of my mom. The cagey nature of their relationship is all too relatable to me. I think the overall season hit me super hard, particularly Carmy’s arc. Through therapy I’ve realized, similar to Carm, that I also tamp down big feelings and put my all into distractions so I avoid feeling those feelings. It was beautiful to see him give in to being human and owning his actions in really meaningful ways.
Just saw the wedding episode tonight and it got me real good. I was never really in agreement with the heavy criticisms tossed around last season, and still think this is just largely a masterpiece of a show. Episodes like that one just solidify it even more for me. I could go on forever about the performances of so many people. The acting is just off the charts. Everyone is consistently so good.
Took me forever to get to this for some reason and I took my time with it but I loved this season mostly. The finale was absolutely incredible, easily in the 3-5 best episodes of the series which is elite company. I had been really avoiding anything about the season for fear of spoilers and somehow missed that it got renewed, so I was expecting this to be the series finale until the last 10 min of it. Glad there will be another season and surprised at how much it earned it. I do disagree w some of the season 3 praise in this thread. The first episode of it was amazing and was exactly how y’all are describing the whole thing. It was interesting and genuinely unconcerned with significant plot movement. The rest was pretty good, but felt much more like they were asked to stretch 1 season of tv into 2 than genuinely exploring less plot driven writing for the artistic sake of it. To each their own, I suppose. just read like 20 pages of this thread and tetra Mountain Dew post is iconic. It’s funny though as a beer and coffee nerd I still have cans of coke I think might be the best beverage in history, so on some level I get the reasoning even if I think it misguided.
I really wished I liked the finale. The wedding episode and the Ayo bottleneck episdoe were terrific. The finale was all so dramatically turgid and boring. Just a lot of yelling feelings. But I’ll watch season 5 for some reason.
finished the season last night and thought it was really good stuff. I did think S3 was a bit weak but the wedding episode flipped everything for me. Put in a new perspective for me and the back half of the season hammered home what makes this show special.
I haven't had time to watch the new season yet, so I'm not caught up on this thread, but the Pig Pen album actually is pretty legit
