The way the Michelin Star came to be is maybe one of my favorite marketing fun facts of all time. People weren’t wearing out their tires quickly enough, so Michelin made recommendations further away from the city to encourage people to drive. And the star was born.
There are so many films out there where the love of food and drink and cooking is integral to the deeper themes. Are you watching them and just assuming the director is being needlessly pretentious?

I’ve been to a one star and it was pretty good. Tried caviar for the first time and I enjoyed it but wouldn’t go out of my way to ever get it. They did make the best scallop I’ve ever tasted.
Love alcohol, but think Wine is overrated. Many craft beers have more rich and complex flavor profiles than wine. Anytime I hear a sommelier talk I feel like it's mostly bullshit.
Coffee has more identifiable flavor profiles than wine actually. Personally I’m more into wine these days.
In regards to the "The Bear vs The Beef. Fancy fine dining vs cheap comfort food" debate. The philosophy that Anthony Bourdain helped popularize that I think many food critics now share is that a taco from a street food stall or a good sandwich from a hole in the wall can be just as good and have as much value as a $200 7 course farm to table molecular gastronomy meal. One isn't inherently better than the other.
