Dumb criticism, this season is so much more narrative-focused compared to the last. And that’s because of the even dumber criticisms levied against S3 re: ”lack of focus”
She was fine, I found Sugar to be out of character and annoying in a way that she never is at any other point in the show. Obviously it was childish and heightened on purpose, but it was dumb
I saw Abby Elliott was asked what celebrity she would want to guest star on the show, and she said her dad. I would love that lol
Maybe she isn’t good at it? I like her enough being her regular character. The chaotic editing and heightened acting was dumb imo
I am being overly grumpy. I have an ep left and enjoy this season as much as the others. I do feel like s3 was doing something different and interesting for a show of this popularity, and the way the general public turned on it and began parroting the same criticisms is frustrating. They took a step back in a more conventional path with this one
It is odd how those criticism permeated culture. My group text talked about s3 not moving the plot along. I was at a bbq this weekend and an older guy there said the same thing and tacked on the “it’s DEFINITELY not a comedy!” Hack shit that I saw after it won awards. Even my mom brought up how she liked season 3 and was confused that “everyone said it was bad”. Where is all of that coming from? Is it the same place that made everyone say Bottoms was good?
I didn't like some of the self indulgent "here are a bunch of real Michelin Star chefs explaining deeper philosophical meaning behind cooking and hospitality" stuff, but besides that I dug season 3.
Bottoms fucking rules. Season 3 is bad because it's overly long, indulgent and boring. The show is funny, but it shouldn't be considered a comedy. Award shows are a net negative for society and art.
When I watch this show, I enjoy the episode. I enjoy the music, the acting, the direction, the atmosphere created. Season 3 may be the best of all of those qualities. I do not give a shit about the plot or how quickly it is moved along if i am enjoying watching the show. Honestly, the most “boring” episodes may be the ones that deal with direct plot advances vs characterization/mood building. Indulgent? The whole fucking show is about the indulgence of cooking. I am okay with them taking their time and making it look and sound good. There are 50000 shows currently on air that care about advancing a plot and reddit theories and all of that nonsense. This show enjoyed taking its time, and the dolts that watched and complained about pacing unfortunately had their voices heard
It reminds of how people turned on season four of the Sopranos and then the fifth season felt like a return to the killing and the heavier plot focus. The third season of this show was the best so far.
Season 3 might end up being my favorite season when all is said and done and it is largely because I see the things people hated about it as features and not bugs. I loved the meditative approach it took.
I def coulda done with less “let’s explore our relationships with our fathers” stuff from this season, but that’s just a timing thing for me lol
I think Spo is wrong about Bottoms and being a bit grumpy about this season but 100% agree with what's being said about Season 3
I enjoyed this season, but i totally understand how it's lost people along the way from s1 to now. Surprised to see all the why? comments about a 5th season on social media. I expected a different ending as what we got definitely left plenty of room for more and was nowhere near close to a finale on its own.
My wife and I's favorite restaurant is a 'fancy' Bistro a few blocks from our house. It's not really a place you should take kids, but we go there so often, know the staff well, that occasionally we will bring the kids. They don't have a kids menu but they will offer a few things off the menu to satisfy kids. The one time we were there they said they could bring out some chicken nuggets and fries and my wife and I are 99.9% sure they just went to McDonald's and got mcnuggets and fries. Either way, impressive work by the kitchen staff.
I am going to a nice restaurant on Sunday and they made us pay the $450 tasting menu fee (no alc) up front with the reservation. Wild!
I don't think my wife will ever say yes to spending that much on a singular dining experience I don't know if I would either, tbf, but I bet it's baller
