I wanted to see what the big deal was lol. Had a lot of fantastic acting and great moments, just a lot of slowness in between
I’m in Kyoto right now and just walked the Philosopher’s Path, specifically because Richie mentioned it in episode 4.
Just finished the season, I thought overall it was good but not quite at the level of seasons 1 and 2. -Episode 1 was amazing and set the bar incredibly high -the faks are perfect, 0 complaints on their screen time. I disagree they feel like a different show, love the point someone made pages ago about every scene with them driving the plot forward -Tina episode I felt like 10% hatery for some of it like this is really good but feels a bit like, paint by numbers story wise then goddamn the last 15 min or w/e was amazing. One of the best scenes of the show easily -was kind of annoyed by ep 8 in the moment when I realized what it was going to be but overall an amazing ep and absolutely necessary -finale was excellent I thought I don’t think the nothing happened takes are accurate at all, but there were a couple points where it felt a bit like they’re spinning their wheels a bit. I felt like you could see the strings just a teeny bit more than in the first two seasons - examples being the exposition of the Cicero/Computer car scene, a couple Carmy moments that felt like him acting uncharacteristically uncharitably vs what we saw in s1&2 in regards to Sydney (the scene where he made the whole menu in front of her felt like of course this is happening for where we need the story to go). And like how much time was passing, Syd not signing the thing I feel like would have come to deep discussion way sooner in real life no? overall I think the good way outweighed the bad, my complaints are minor in the grand scheme and I’ve got no problem with meandering a bit more, I just felt like outside of the obvious high points it didn’t feel quite as tightly written/constructed as the first two. Looking forward to season 4 for sure.
There seems to be a huge issue with patience in storytelling rn, I agree that this season was different and I feel that was absolutely intentional. The show is evolving and creating larger character arcs with each season, and I fully expect to receive some of the closure people are so anxious for in S4. Stuff like the first episode, Tina's episode and Sugar's episode are absolutely crucial time spent with these characters, I can't imagine not appreciating those episodes for the intimate moments they give us. The restaurant's success is secondary to the characters at this point and that's how it should be imo very good season of television
this is also not to say people can't be into this season or find it slow or meandering or whatever, I get that it's not going to be for everyone and that's cool, just my opinion on some of the less thoughtful criticism I've been seeing around the season
Just watched the finale. Didn't quite hit the highs of the opener or the Tina or Sugar episodes but still some fantastic television The flashbacks of Carmy treating Sydney the same way Chef David treated him... they did a really fabulous job at setting of Sydney's dilemma. She's gotta stay at the bear, right? But like, feel like the show could make it work even if she doesn't People complaining about the show pacing should be glad that this has regularlly been doing a season a year so its not like we gotta wait til winter 2026 to get the continuation. If its not for you its not for you, but the only complaints I see on this thread I actually agree with is Marcus felt really underutilized.
I would be curious to see a Venn diagram of people who think “nothing happened” with people who want Carmy and Sydney together
I would be rooting for Ayo to get the directing for a comedy Emmy for Napkins if I wasn't so sure that Tomorrow had that in the bag.
Finished up last night and completely dumbfounded by some of the criticism I've seen. It felt tonally different from the previous two seasons and got a little more experimental at times, but the quality was still in the highest echelon of prestige TV. I loved it. Also was just constantly floored by how good Abby Elliott was this season. I mean, everyone in the show is great, so for her to stand out that much just speaks even more to her performance. She's so good at communicating a huge range of emotion with her face. And Ice Chips was just the icing on the cake.
