I don’t hate the broad strokes of it narratively - he wants out, he has a slight in in an area that you could squint and see how it would appeal to him, he realizes mid interview he is happiest in the kitchen just not how it had been, you assume he goes back…that’s basically the Mad Men ending and borderline even works more for me here. The monologue taking place in that setting and the idea that a connection could sub for any formal schooling in architecture though just felt kinda absurd to me in a show that generally tried to keep the Carmie storylines a little more grounded in reality. Not a huge issue but did stick out to me.
I thought the choice of architecture was weird. I mean didn't they imply since episode 1 that Carmy's secret passion was jeans? Get my man an internship at Diesel or something.
Just finished this, I can’t remember too many shows that make you feel a part of the action like this does. Was a great season and fitting finish for the show, hint of positive but no home runs. Some really high level performances too. I’ll miss the chaos
Seemed like jeans were just a form of bartering/currency for him not a “passion” lol. And yeah architecture did seem out of left field but if the show did consistently establish a passion for him it was drawing/art
There was the scene I think you're forgetting with Claire in season 2 I think where he talks about how he would draw his own jean designs all the time in high school, and he sorta nerded out about jeans.
Jeans Guys are real. I remember my buddy talking about how he and his friends would do jeans trades with eachother, like tape trading but with jeans lol
maybe not trading, but about a decade ago, i definitely remember being in proximity to a handful of guys who would talk a lot about raw denim and premium jeans.
I worked for a catering company for a couple years and then worked in the kitchen of a country club for a couple years and the wardrobes were exclusively work clothes or basketball shorts lol.
In 2012 I stole a chef jacket and wore it to the club and the bathroom attendant asked me all these questions about my restaurant that I did not have answers to.
