that’s a pretty bold claim that i do not think will play out to be true. it might outgross it. what is considered “obliterating” it?
Making over a billion dollars ($400 million+ more)? Which I could definitely see happening given that Joker just did it last year.
I just think Batman will have much more interest than a Wolverine movie. And like @Anthony_ just said, if Joker can make a billion dollars, then The Batman certainly has a shot to do that and then some.
just barely, and it had the whole political aspect to it that I doubt we get with this. even looking back to dark knight, which was insanely popular (granted also over a decade ago) it hit just over a billion. i could see 800m-1b. i don't really see that as crushing 600m either haha.
I think kids/teenagers should be allowed to see a Batman film in theaters (if everything is blown over by then). I still remember seeing The Dark Knight in theaters for the first time. I wouldn't want to prevent kids/teenagers from the same experience just so I can see boobs, gore, or hear someone say "fuck" in a Batman movie.
Also, don't forget Deadpool 1 & 2 both made almost $800 million, and Deadpool is nowhere near as popular worldwide as Batman and the Joker are. This movie making $1 billion is very possible.
If theaters are fully operational then I see no reason as to why a solo Batman wouldn't gross $ 1 billion+ after both TDK and TDKR managed to do so.
The empire didn't see any reasons why a fully operational death star wouldn't crush the rebellion either. Shit happens.
Well yeah of course I'm assuming theaters will be operational again next fall, which, I mean, I guess I kind of shouldn't be assuming that.
Oh yeah, as long as the movie industry isn’t still super disrupted in October 2021, & as long as the word of mouth isn’t really bad, this is gonna cross a billion. Don’t think rating is gonna have that big an effect in this case. I also think superhero movies being rated R is overrated. And I say that as someone who loves Birds of Prey, Logan, Punisher: War Zone, & Blade. Some movies are better with that extra permission than they’d be without it, but I’m not sure how much blood or how many “fuck”s will be that important to this film’s success as a good Batman story.
Out of curiosity, did the trailer have any cool easter eggs that were pulled straight from the panels of Batman Year One? Probably the next comic I'll read
I just finished Year One and no, I don’t recall anything resembling what we saw in the trailer. Then again The Batman is year two and most of the theories around the film is that it will be close to Hush. Batman:Ego is the comic that Reeves said he took influence from. But I want to say Year One is great. It was my first time reading it and I’m glad I did.
Filming in the UK seemed like a weird decision in the first place, they haven't done very well with COVID either, right? At least Thor is being filmed in Australia where the number of cases is basically non-existent
