Like Dark and Gritty doesn't mean good. Its so funny how people think Dark and Gritty is what made BvS bad. It was story structure and plot lines, not the tone lol. Hollywood seems so clueless sometimes. I don't need my Batman making jokes.

Tone was part of the problem, but certainly not the only one or the most important one.

  4. Yeah, tone was a really big problem with BvS.

Hey man, stop hyperboling lol. I never praised Croc, just said they have one already established that looks great and can be easily used again in a scene where Batman can just come in and fight him for a bit. Why not use the established villains in a Batman movie?

And the super secret orphan wink is the least of the major issues with TDKR lol.

This argument would be like bringing up your Logan bashing every time you had an opinion on a movie :-)

  6. And some of the best Batman stories include him making jokes.

  7. That's praise.

Fine by me, I have no problem standing behind that opinion.

You really think so? The plot of the movie served a dark tone though. Logan/TDK had darker tones and it worked with praise. If the movie had a great plot and didn't go all over the place, I don't think people would have anything to say about the tone.....

I just think current DC movies just have the characters all wrong, especially Superman.

I should rephrase and leave Wonder Woman out of that statement. Gal is great.

  10. Yes.

And the plot and tone were big problems with the movie. Getting the characters wrong, with a shitty plot and tone, helped.

Logan sucked and TDK was a better made movie. What other movies do/did doesn't have any impact on the mistakes and poor handling of BvS.

Really? Like what? *I'm seriously asking, I can't think of any. My fav stories of Batman are Long Halloween, Hush, Black Mirror (I know that is Dick as Batman), Under the Red Hood, End Game.

Well I mean, he did look great for practical effects. Even won that Oscar :-)

I feel like you nit pick the way people word stuff even though you know the meaning behind what is being said just to try to one up the convo lol.

Execution and context matters and BVS ate shit. It just did not work.

Plus the tone most likely impacted performances and such. Maybe if they were going for a slightly lighter movie, they wouldn't have had Superman look like a mopey depressed bastard who looked like he wanted to die rather than be saving people unless they were his mom or Lois. I doubt the script called for him to look bored and uninterested in those couple very brief scenes where he actually helped people.

  14. Practically all of Snyder/Capullo's run includes a snarky and joke cracking Bats.

    Right from the start:

I love Man of Steel, but to me it's a cool take on Superman that worked so well as a stand alone. Bringing it into BvS didn't really work because he was mopey the whole time.

I guess we'll have to wait for JL, but Aquaman and Flash look great too. I think they nailed Alfred, Perry, Batman, WW and Lois though.

  16. Looked like a literal talking turd. The Oscars making a mistake doesn't change that.

I think you just word things badly.

And honestly there was a good bit of humor in the Nolan trilogy. It wasn't abundant as he was striking a nice balance between light and dark and leaned dark. But there were some really fun moments in there. One that comes to mind is in TDKR when he lands with Selina and she disappears on him and he goes, "so that's what that feels like."

One of the things the Burton and Nolan films did well was establishing the setting.

I love that the DCU isn't set in NY exclusively. I would love for WB to really flesh out some of the cities / foreign countries that are unique to DC.

It also helps to set their universe apart from Marvel's.

  19. The main thing is they're just better directors. Snyder's good at one thing, and pretty much one thing only, and that alone doesn't make for good films.

Yeah I remember that, the opening scene of issue one where he is dressed up as the Joker I think? I really don't remember he cracking jokes throughout the series though.

I still get the feeling if I agreed with you there wouldn't be problem with wording, but since I don't....... :-)

My favorite bit of comedy is from TDK where the guy is trying to black mail Fox and he just says calmly "So you think your employer, one of the most rich and powerful men in the world runs around at night dressed like a bat and beating up criminals with his bare hands......and your plan is to blackmail this man? Good luck" Get me every time.

It somehow made Watchmen, 300, Dawn of the Dead good movies though.

    Absolutely.

I'm just hoping that the Captain Marvel movie does something interesting with Kahndaq. And that the next Superman movie fleshes out Metropolis. But it's most important with Flash. His relationship to his city is one of my favorite things about the character.
