I saw this for the second time today (the first time was two days ago lol) and it was even better the second time around. I honestly think I like this more than TDK

Overall really enjoyed this. Some things I could nitpick for sure, but I really appreciate how much it committed to its atmosphere and sense of dread for almost the entire runtime. Really felt distinct from any other Batman movie I’ve seen, and that alone is an achievement.

Saw this a second time — I was worried that knowing how all the mysteries unfold would make me feel the runtime on rewatch, but I ended up loving it even more.

The relationship with Catwoman is easily the crowning achievement of the movie IMO. He’s in the batsuit the entire time and yet there’s still 100% more sexual tension and legitimate chemistry between Pattinson and Kravitz than there is with any romantic relationship in the Nolan films. Kravitz’s charisma is just otherworldly, and the design of Batman’s cowl really allowed for Pattinson to show emotions despite being in the suit for 90% of the movie.

I don’t know if this is a better movie overall than the Dark Knight but it’s a better Batman movie IMO. I just feel like Reeves “gets” Batman on a level that I haven’t seen in the other movies. In the Nolan films there are jokes about Batman being a freak, having a lot of the same qualities as his villains, etc — but this movie actually takes the risks to sell that. When Riddler is throwing his temper tantrum because Batman called him a psycho, you 100% believe that this nutjob would see Batman as a likeminded individual.

There are still some storytelling issues that I have, but I have way bigger issues with the Nolan films and I still love those (The entire last act of Dark Knight with the boat bombs, honestly most of the non-Joker stuff in that movie). Even if this one gets a little bogged down in exposition at points, there’s not a false note in the movie.

I can’t wait to see where Reeves & Pattinson go from here. Bruce being so broken and honestly shitty/immature in this movie, and then gaining clarity by the end, really paves the way for a genuinely interesting character arc over the course of multiple films.

Tdkr is definitely bottom tier but maybe a little too much retconing on Joel’s Batman’s here. And I actually enjoy Forever.

I will never watch Begins or TDKR again by my own choice. I might not even watch TDK again by my own choice. I'll 100% watch the Burton/Joel ones though. They're a lot of fun!

Best Batman is the one where he has a Batman credit card

Still have to see this but TDK and Batman are my faves. Love Keaton/Nicholson and I think the Gotham in that movie is great.

Very old take from me, I say it pretty often! Much prefer the over the top/corny style of the earlier films to the gritty realism of the new ones. Not as interesting to look at.

I am not a huge batman fan (seen most of them casually and appreciated them to different levels), but I really liked this one. A few quick thoughts:
    - I've seen people complaining it was too dark but I think that's just theater quality. Saw it at a new AMC and it was fine, had no issues with anything being too dark, looked sharp and great and loved the vibe and how committed to it that it was.
    - Some individual scenes were really cool. Loved when Cat woman was going through the club scanning faces and the car chase was great (despite the trailer ruining the end).
    - I knew I'd like the directing as I think Matt Reeves work on the 2nd planet of the apes movie was outstanding and this had some similarly filmed action sequences.
    - Story was okay... I get that we all know Batman by now and his origin story, but it still felt a little strange to just jump into the world.
    - Detective batman was cool and the Riddler was very well portrayed and it was refreshing to not get another joker right off the bat for this version of batman.

LEGO Batman if you have a child is a perfect gateway into Batman. Just between silly and serious with a pretty good message about how you can’t live alone.
