the arkham scene would've been at the end of the credits of a marvel movie i refuse to accept it as a true scene in that movie. ha
After seeing this, I am extremely interested in seeing how they do Mr. Freeze in a sequel. This feels like it's trying to be even more grounded and realistic than Nolan's trilogy, so I'm curious to see how they do it. Especially with whatever the tease at the end was alluding to. Love the idea that it was Venom that he used as a sort of adrenaline in the climax too.
i just read a quote from Reeves somewhere that this has been in the works for 5 years and he had no idea what was happening in the Joker. you’re not wrong, but it happened. what tease? You mean Joker? If so, what’s unclear? It means Joker will be the next villain most likely.
Would love if the tease doesn't pan out in a sequel if we get one. If they're gonna do J save him for later. I'd love to see some new villains. Especially after RPat said he'd love to take on the court of owls in a sequel.
This was everything I wanted in a Batman film, while TDK is likely a “better” movie, this is perfect cinema in the Batman world. Loved every second of it. Only gripe would be to chill on Dano’s laughs a bit after the arrest.
This was mostly great. Some serious Jesse Eisenberg Lex vibes from Dano at some points - whoever said that was on point. Need to cut like 25-30 minutes cause this was way too long. This may have been the best version of Batman on screen. So much to love. Hope this is just the beginning for Pattinson
Some racist got upset that there are good black people in this movie and that there are only 2 good people. his response was basically that people are stupid for hating on him because he liked the movie but hated that there were good black people. But he liked the movie! So what’s the big deal? Just absolute white trash. obviously don’t watch the review because this abject moron doesn’t deserve any views.
Fuckin loved that Pattinson is in the suit the majority of the movie, face covered and all. Such a nice change of pace.
This was good. Pattinson is best Batman. I'm sick of Joker and hope that tease was about a fleshed out rogues gallery more so than Joker being "the villain" of the sequel, and I also cringed at the inevitable "here are all the good cops!" moment. But, overall, if we've got to have all serious Batman movies forever, this version of that is the best. Also, between this and Spider-Verse, we've sure got a lot of examples of how good filmmakers can work a hero's iconic motivation into a story without showing a scene we've seen a million times. No pearls, no alley, but the Waynes' death is still pivotal. If only another superhero movie series had understood that... Oh, and Riddler 100% did not know Batman was Bruce Wayne.
I will say the URL scene was so goofy that it felt like something out of either LEGO Batman or the Adam West Batman.
URL was super goofy but it worked for me idk. I liked how each Riddler riddle worked on two levels - "thumb drive" actually got a big laugh out of me, and "bring him into the light" was a really simple but devastating reveal those and the 'three riddles in two minutes scene' were pretty much exactly what I wanted from this version of Riddler. less so the silly Ave Maria bit or the livestreams, which frankly it's hard not to stack up against the similar and infinitely better Joker videos in TDK
A lot of great things about the film for sure. But also some mixed feelings on a few things for me… I’ve always wanted a true detective style Batman film and this delivers. I do have to wonder if there just wasn’t enough balance. Farrell was great as Penguin, really enjoyed it and wanted more. As far as the Arkham scene, I really don’t see why you do that scene at all if it’s not going to be a post credits scene. But that’s just nit picking really. RP was excellent and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here especially on the Bruce Wayne side. Overall I’d say it’s a step in the right direction and it ranks with the best Batman films. Though it’s still far behind TDK.
I feel like there’s a lot of fun directions the sequel can go in. Parts of Gotham inaccessible like No Mans Land, wealthy criminals controlling society like Court of Owls, and Matt Reeves talking about wanting to bring in Freeze.
Loved this. Pattinson was great. Such a refreshing take on the character. Enjoyed how Batman and Gordon played off each other. Also really enjoyed unhinged Paul Dano. I have to say, Greig Fraser did stellar work here. A lot of this movie takes place at night and in the rain, which could easily look murky and terrible. The use of light and color (red in particular) was just so on point in this. Only real complaint is the tacked on tease at the end, which felt out of place and clunky.
For some reason, the Ave Maria bit reminded me of the kid's singing at a soccer stadium in The Dark Knight Rises. Both are not meant to elicit laughter, yet there was something slightly off about their execution that almost made me have that reaction.
