I thought I was seeing it tonight but my ticket is tomorrow. For some reason I thought March 2nd was Tuesday
I actually didn't know the ages of the characters in FFVII, so I just looked them up, and I'm finding most of them are much older than I was expecting. Playing JRPGs and watching anime especially has taught me that Japanese media plays very fast and loose when it comes to character age vs. their design, so it's frankly a relief to see something that actually put characters at a reasonable age.
Pattinson, Kravitz and Dano popped in to our NYC screening too. Was very cool minus delaying the initial start time.
I really want to see this early, but I don’t know if I can swing seeing it before this weekend, or next Tuesday.
This was everything I was hoping it would be. some instant, scattered reactions: Loved the tone. The color palette was absolutely breathtaking and had me longing for more even when it was done. casting was perfect all the way around. Thought it was cool how you could hear the leather creaking in Batman’s suit. Even though I knew they would be woven in, it was still cool to see the Seven and Zodiac references/throwbacks throughout the film. Even felt some Watchmen (Rorschach’s journal) and Saw mixed in. - the rain (seven) - killing/beating the driver in the front seat from the back (zodiac) - journals in the Riddler’s place (seven) - riddler’s entire get-up (zodiac, obviously) - enjoyed seeing penguin getting to use an umbrella more than expected im pleased they left Nirvana in the movie. Can’t get the Batman theme out of my head - penguin actually waddling was awesome and hearing him call Batman and Gordon goddamn sons of bitches was hilarious hapoy fucking Halloween
Nice little Safdie brother reference in the beginning was good. I’ll post more thoughts tomorrow, but I texted this to my gf tonight: One of my favorite parts was driving into the parking lot around 645 with my food, eating it real fast in the car before walking in, and the parking lot was packed. And as I was walking in I could hear cars running and see people inside doing the same. And then walking inside the concession line was long and everyone was happy and talking loudly. And the theater was packed! It’s been over two years since I’ve seen anything like it. Like since End Game came out. Even Spider-Man wasn’t like that. I just love a bunch of happy comic book nerds being as excited about it as me all at once.
