Bummed it's just an EP. I also wish physical copies were coming out for this. I've been itching to pick up something new on vinyl
They're doing a game on their website right now where you have to guess the tracklist for the EP and you get to hear previews of each song. 1. What I Want 2. Hush Hush 3. Daphne Blue 4. Honest 5. See Through 6. Haunted 7. Farsighted 8. Break Me
The clip didn’t sound diff at all. Two of the new tracks...haunted and hush hush...sound incredible and the other two are meh. Upset they decided to re-record that song on top of the other singles...and I love that song.
I also saw a new song they played live called “the internet”. I wonder if that’s one of these and they changed the name or they’re saving it
The clip was definitely different. Spencer's vocals were articulated differently and they added a lot more ambience to the instrumental. At least that's what I heard.
Very excited for this. Although I’m a little baffled by the choice to make it an 8-song EP instead of just adding two or maybe even one more song and calling it a full-length. Odd choice.
They could've added Less Than I Do, Know Me, Something to hold on to, and Fool of Myself. Wouldn't mind having them all collected in an album together with the new songs. I guess they hurried up to get something out with the new label. Maybe we'll get a full length with all new tunes within a year
Some of their IG comment replies indicate that they don't really ever want to make a full length LP. I've honestly enjoyed their output over the ~year and a half or so I've been a fan. I'd rather them drop a new banger every couple of months and then a slightly bigger release every couple years.
I wonder if they will have the EP on vinyl? My gf and I are going to see them in September so I’d love to pick one up
You don’t sign to a label to release a track every couple of months...maybe the future will be diff but I still think this climate of label bands requires more than that.
Yea, seems like they're content with doing whatever they're doing as far as releases and shows are concerned. If they wanted to, they would've put of a full-length by now. Being in a band right now, full-time at least, is tough.
It’s interesting. I’ve heard multiple artists say that they think the traditional album is dead and that consumers want music more often instead of waiting two years for a new album. Makes a lot of sense to me for bands to release singles throughout the year then a grouping of songs all at once every couple of years. Maybe that’s the idea behind just an ep. I think eventually the terms ep and full length will fall away. It’ll be between just singles and groupings of songs. I am surprised I haven’t seen much press or promotion for these guys around the web. Some indie outlets are talking about them but these guys have a ton of promise to crossover into the mainstream. More than the 1975. They also seem super thankful for their success. I’m rooting for them
Yeah some of these tracks have huge crossover potential. I hope if we get this ep with some retreaded ground that it won’t be more than a year until we hear some new stuff. I’m okay with singles because I love constant output but I do overplay the fuck out of separate tracks. The release of 1975s debut is and still remains the best model IMO. 4 collections of eps with singles and bonus stuff building into a year of an album push.
I'd honestly be surprised if we didn't get another Camino single by the end of 2019. I do agree that, although I like The 1975 more (these guys are my second favorite band), I think any of their singles recently could easily be top 40 hits.
There’s even a country tinge to these new singles that would catapult them if alt rock or top 40 didn’t jump on. I meant a substantial release of songs and not just a new single in 2020.
Agree about overplaying singles. I think that’s why an album of some sort will always be around. Agree about the 1975 as well. There was So MUCH hype around them when they came out and it was all so exciting. I still love them but they just never broke in the mainstream like I think everyone expected. I know they are big though and I’m not minimizing their success. My gf and I are going to see them in Camden this coming November
Eh. I def enjoy the re-record and the singles. But we’ve def heard the best of this release ahead of time. I think the new songs are just okay - I like haunted the best, followed by break me (but the lyrics kill me). Hush hush and farsighted just don’t do much of anything for me.
Haunted, Hush Hush, and the re-recording of What I Want are all very good. It took me a while to get into "Fool of Myself" so I'm sure the other tracks will grow on me as well.
