I don't get the hate behind One Last Cigarette. I really dig that track. But I listened to Roses and...that is BADDDDD! Like I don't know how a major label band got that track on this album.
I showed my fiancée “know it all” and she said it sounds like they shoved too many things into one song. It’s my favorite of the 4 songs released, but it’s still not on the level of their old stuff. All 4 of the new songs sound like they are just trying anything and everything hoping something sticks. lany and the maine’s new songs are both way better than this.
What I want is probably my favourite song by them. 2nd, Daphne Blue. Edit: I think they thought it would be bigger/more popular too. It was apart of the encore when I saw them in LA October 2019, but didn't get a very big crowd reaction.
I like "what I want" but it wasn't a new song. These guys have the potential to grab you within the first few seconds of a song and they just haven't done that since the release of See Through, imo. Daphne Blue and Something to Hold Onto are also good examples of this. You're hooked immediately I think that's why this band is so frustrating. These guys have/had such potential but their story arch is so boring and formulaic. Cool indie band makes introspective music, gets record deal, then starts writing songs about hooking up with girls and getting too drunk. And Roses is just embarrassing on every level
And after all the hate I just got tickets to go to Nashville for like 10 hours to see them, valley and nightly at their release show hahaha on the first day of school. I suck.
Hahah at least I’ll get to see valley and nightly (who are both seemingly heading down a dark path with all their basic ass tik tok jingles as well) lol
I like nightly but their aesthetic can be pretty cringe like Lany and Joan. They all just seem like they are going for this harmless nice guy vibe and it’s a huge turnoff, personally another reason I liked band Camino. They make/made pop music but they seemed like normal dudes
I cannot for the life of me stand the guy who sings Roses. Something about his voice is so irritating. Still like One Last Cigarette, though.
They killed it in Nashville last night, but all the new songs are just so….paint by numbers and hollow. There were one or two new ones that stood out but most were right in line with the last couple released. They are just too talented to settle for the shit they are lately. May have peaked pre-try hard, honestly.
That's a real shame. 2-3 years ago I was sure they were going to end up being one of my favorite bands.
I’m still hoping that there are a few songs I enjoy. with that said, this new Lany album is scratching my indie pop itch pretty hard. All 4 songs are bops and I’m looking forward to hearing the whole thing Friday
All three acts performed their assess off - sound was great - vibes were great. Having said that, All three bands are putting out new music I don’t care for as much as the music that came before it though so it was a weird dichotomy. I feel like Valley is a completely different band than they were on the last album cycle - the look, the behavior, the songs, etc. To be fair, the songs are fine live, but the same hollow, superficial feel that some of TBCs new stuff is (even more so in fact). You just reminded me to check out your song too! Completely forgot (I was hammered when I first got it lol). Sorry bout that!
Thank you!! I suppose this gives me enough merit to plug it here. I have a solo project called Beach Holiday and all the artists on that Ryman show are a huge influence for me. I'm attaching my new single Sunlight below. Sorry if this breaks any rules, I've been on the site much longer than the project has existed and I'm not just here for promo.
