The tryhard ep from these guys has only been the real thing I've liked. They really nailed it with that one.
All the OGs know that the drop off started with try hard. The stuff before and during that session (the singles not included on the release) were the band at their best.
My Thoughts on You + singles Heaven+ singles tryhard [redacted, roughly 4,000 spaces] literally any other thing they've put out
Catchy, sure, but just the emptiest calories ever. It was like they just tried to write an album's worth of TikTok snippets.
I feel like we’re beating a dead horse here but those singles leading up to try hard were on another level. Even some of the songs on that ep seemed like they were going in the wrong direction. Someone on Reddit mentioned that they separated from their manager Jameson Roper so I’m curious what’s going on with them behind the scenes. They were firing on all cylinders than they seemed to kind of run out of steam. They are obviously much more commercially successful than Grayscale but they were both popping off around the same time and I don’t think either band lived up to their potential
Two hollow and vacant releases down and now a reclamation tour - fresh start narrative - back to the roots !
Idk, each of their projects has 1 or 2 A+ songs (2/14; Who Says We’re Through; Berenstein [if we cheat and call the lead up singles to tryhard its own project]; Daphne Blue & See Through; 1 Last Cigarette; What Am I Missing? & Told You So) — it’s just more staggering when there’s 1-2 awesome songs on a 14 song album vs on a 4 song EP
They are def trying here. I think these new songs are nice. Nothing that knocks you off your ass but definitely like stuff more in this vein from them.
Probably only going to come back to Someone Who’s Trying. The other two aren’t bad like most of their later stuff, but they just didn’t really do anything for me.
Nostalgia is the best song they’ve released in years. im really enjoying this and Someone Who’s Trying
id rather that than anything on the last 2 albums haha and Jeff sounds so good on these songs. It feels like Spenser gets more of the spotlight on their albums but he’s my favorite part of this band
I'm clearly in the minority of the people in this thread, but I like all this band's releases, and think the last two albums are good. haha. Anyway, fun little EP.
There's absolutely a lot of great stuff on both albums. They just set an insanely high bar with the early EPs and singles. But it's all subjective and probably varies depending on when people got into them.
