Oh shit, hope it's Going Back To Madiera. Probably not because he used the intro riff in Giving Up On Love though. "Going Back to Madiera" is a cover of a tune that Jasin and his friend wrote from their band which we later played in the early two and three piece version of The Ataris. I always loved that tune and wish we recorded it at some point. The music became "Giving Up on Love" but "Going Back to Madiera" was always the far better song.
Love the interview, very happy with how active Kris has been and glad to hear more songs are coming this year. I do wonder why he's doing 14 songs though, has he given any mention of why? I'm here for it, but that sounds like a pretty long record and it's hard not to wonder if we'd get it sooner if it were 10 or 11 instead. I realize this sounds like I'm complaining or being negative but really I'm more just being curious if there is a particular arc with the 14 he has chosen or something like that.
Probably too early to say...he did mention in the rollout of singles leading up to March that there might be more of a sense of "connections" between the songs. Either way, should be plenty of The Ataris love throughout this year and next.
Support his reasoning 100%. Making sure it's ready with vinyl for this kinda band is the right call. He's clearly thought this whole thing through, the little lyrical callbacks he hints at sound incredible, so I'm here for the ride.
For sure! If this came out in October and didn't have vinyl with it people would be complaining about that. Plus, Ataris are notoriously a summer band, and having an album come out at the start of sumer is a much better move than at the start of winter. We've waited almost 20 years for a proper full length from them, what's another 5 months?
That's where I'm at. Would I like it now? Of course! But if it works out best for Kris and the band to roll it out in March, then I'm here for it. And I'll probably over play the new songs leading up to it. And beg him and their PR guy for an advance.
I've always been a pretty casual fan of this band, really just a fan of So Long Astoria. Revisited Welcome To The Night again and still think it's pretty bad, but right now I am listening to Silver Turns To Rust for the first time and honestly am pretty impressed by the first four tracks on here, the "new" ones at the time. I guess I am tuning back in to this band again
if I hadn't splurged already on Best Friends Forever this year, I would be going to this. Awesome to see The Ataris a part of this. Now I see why Kris referred to Sublime a few times in the recent interview that was posted on chorus
One of my friends saw The Ataris at Slam Dunk Festival the weekend just gone and they said the stage they played was packed out big time and a few years before that at the same festival they were playing to a few hundred people.. safe to say their career resurgence is definitely for real!!
There’s a bunch of clips on their instagram story where you can see how many people were there. Really great to see
It is great to see as well and my friend met Kris at the merch stand later on that day and Kris said he couldn't believe that amount of people check them out and admitted that he was shock as well but was very grateful that big of a crowd check them out and I am happy for them getting all this attention, praise and momentum at the moment.
