Damone rocked though! Well, their 2006 album did. I didn't like their earlier one as much. Now I'm gonna listen to Damone!
So pleased to see the reception here. Completely agree regarding production; love that analog warmth. It really fits the direction Kris is going for. Speaking of, the man’s got pipes. I’d argue he’s gotten even better over the years. Shoutout to Bob Hoag for not only recording these songs, but for killing it on drums too. Also: more organs in all music, please.
It's a magic trick the way Kris can still write a song that feels urgent and nostalgic at the same time. Everything about this song is exactly what I wanted and have been hoping for... It's a classic Ataris song written in a way that feels age-appropriate (for lack of a better way of putting it). This is awesome.
Depends on the length. Without the bonus track that album clocks in at 52:49 so with an hour set they could squeeze it in. Last time they toured that record they did it out-of-order so maybe something they could slot in mid-set?
I bought a new car today. It’s my first new car since 2011 (keeping my Jeep because its my baby). Anyways, Car Song was the first song I played through the speakers. Perfect song for a perfect experience. Kris is a great songwriter. I’m very excited for new music.
This songs been stuck in my head nonstop and I’m not complaining. It also has me revisiting the band Roadside Monument which is also a great listen.
I have listened to this song about 6 times in a row this morning and still don't know where to start with praising it and reflecting on it.
Not enough talk about how great the acoustic version of In This Diary is. All of this is fantastic. I'm so happy to have new The Ataris music in 2025.
Just wanted to second how much I appreciate Kris always writing songs that somehow flow naturally with the sounds that have come before, while also maturing and growing as a songwriter. Love this dude and hope this song and album get the attention they deserve.
Organizing some records and found this. This is the first vinyl I ever had in my collection. Yearssss before I even owned a record player. I got this at Warped Tour 2001, which was my very first Warped Tour experience.
Kris was on IG with Mike Herrera last night and said the record is 80% done but if it’s not done soon, in time for an October release, it won’t come out until March of next year.
whichever label they're putting it out through must only have slots available in those months. i hope they can get it done asap. it'd be such a bummer for the band to wait a year and lose the steam/momentum they've been building up.
His thinking was November - February is a tough time to get people to care about your album with everything else going on in the calendar, start/end of the new year. But him talking about him feeling like it's a summer album makes me nervous it's actually going to get pushed to next year.
