Yeah I don’t know if it was an extreme case of perfectionism or something but it seems like something unlocked in him and I’m glad we’re finally getting closer to this elusive album
The 2 clips have me psyched and so I put on Astoria yesterday. Really love how he brought the 80s/heartland rock influences to the pop punk sound and lyrically it still feels relatable first the most part as I approach 40. So glad he's pulling this together. Surreal to remember at their peak I saw them at a sold out 2k venue in Scotland.
He's posting on IG about going on a writing road trip to Alaska who so knows what the hell is going on.
I like to think Kris imagines the Breaking Bad themed video is super timely and relevant but doesn't know that the show ended 12 years ago. He's just really bad with the concept of time
Did they just dust off a video concept from the original release date of Graveyard of the Atlantic? lol
For what it’s worth, Kris says he has over two albums worth of material recorded. That’s awesome. I’m glad he’s writing songs again and seems to be enjoying the process!
I’m curious if anything from the previous sessions like 10 years ago make it on the album or if it’s all newer stuff. Unless he’s answered this before and I missed it?
Well, the new single (Car Song) was first recorded over 5 years ago, he released it on Bandcamp back then. So it certainly isn't all new songs on the album.
Just listened to the demo and Kris sure knows how to write a good catchy hook. Stoked to hear the studio release.
Listing for the 7" is starting to pop up various places. Looks like the B-Side is 'In This Diary'... presumably re-recorded https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/car-song-the-ataris/1147191942
Wait 18 years for new music - Get rerecordings of old songs. I would actually be surprised if this album cycle brings any new music at all (except the Bryan Adams cover). Would not surprise me at all if almost all the tracks are finished versions of the demos and recorded tracks we've already heard.
The band hasn’t put out new music into the mainstream in 18 years. It kinda makes sense that they’d released a new song with an old song re-recorded just to help rebuild sole familiarity again for older casual fans. There’s a chance “In This Diary” isn’t even on this new album and it’s just a special b-side for this 7”. Also, I don’t remember anyone being mad when they made a re-recorded version of “I Won’t Spend Another Night Alone” on So Long Astoria. They could just be following that album’s same kinda format: re-record an old song and include a cover song.
