  1. He said why he's doing it? I think he's pretty clearly not thinking the band's gonna get radio play in 2025 after not doing anything for like two decades.

Excited to see Kris in the studio and sounding great but come on, Summer of 69 is as dull and cliché an 80s cover as there is. Boys of Summer has that nostalgic, wistful nuance that made it make more sense as an Ataris cover, especially on that album. I'd have taken a Jack & Diane cover over this.

Plus he's already got a song called Summer '79.

  3. I didn't see/read/hear why he's doing it. I just saw their story of him singing. But again, I'll happily take any music The Ataris release.

A great song is a great song, even if it is deemed “cliché.”

  7. Ok? I'll watch the video again? and I'll read the caption?

UPDATE: I read it. Pretty cool.

He re-recorded Boys Of Summer and released it a few years ago. Fans on here seemed unhappy about it from what I remember.

That’s because they were on a major label. Scene bands were all the rage in the early 2000s. 0% chance the Ataris ever get radio play again.

edit: except for boys of summer, which still is in regular rotation on KROQ in LA

In This Diary definitely got radio play and a good bit of exposure on the music channels, it's the only way my 14 year old sheltered Alabama self would have ever known about them at the time. Bought the CD at Walmart, it definitely got the major label push.

    Are we about to kiss?

Give the people what they want! I fully back the decision. I think the song gets a bad wrap because it gets covered by bad bar bands all the time. Ataris will crush it.

  15. "being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up"

either the record label told them to write the line this way - because no one ever knows the veracity of that statement until it's too late and they've grown up - or, The Ataris wrote it after they had already grown up, in which case they have no right to speak for us through the present tense ("these are the best days of our lives")

Latest story looks like Kris is re-recording San Dimas. So we got one cover and one re-record. I wonder how many total tracks it’ll have and how many of those will be new songs

Wasn't this already re-recorded? Or am I thinking of something else?

Fast Times at Dropout High was, and it was (at least earlier) intended to be on the upcoming album.

I'll believe it when I hear it. Still can't believe it's taken them however long to release something more substantive than a 7-inch.

    Things have changed.

Been Lucy-on-Charlie-Browned too many times. But I'll be excited to hear it.

Kris has confirmed it’s new music, not a repress.
