yeah okay. I remember in like 2011 there was something on AbsolutePunk about Graveyard of the Atlantic almost being finished and I posted a comment about being cautiously optimistic or not fully believing them or something, and their bass player at the time quoted me, yelled at me, and said it was coming
According to Kris, "Car Song" is a lock for the new album. It's been re-recorded. He describes the new tunes generally as "a more mature So Long, Astoria" with some of the longer form songwriting from the GOTA sessions included. Take it all with a grain of salt, but it really seems like these new writing and recording sessions are finally building serious momentum.
Ep 774 : Kristopher Roe - The Ataris New podcast interview. Apparently they gab a bit about the new album.
I am currently listening. Big takeaways: The Ataris signed with the same management company as Sublime (not with Rome) so they’re taking the reins on things. Releasing a single early 2025, finishing the album in spring, and then release date tbd after that.
Talk about money in the music industry (or lack thereof), Kris's music history, how they'll be releasing a 7inch of Car Song on vinyl with his dads ashes in it. Car Song is the song that'll be released as the first single after the holidays. Having a management team now behind him vs doing everything DIY. They'll be following the same release template as Sublime, and then a discussion on lineup changes. In 2028, Kris will get the rights back to So Long Astoria and will rerelease it then.
I used to email his dad Bill back and forth back in the day, and he mailed me an old VHS tape once with his a couple rare Ataris shows on it. Honestly might snag one of those 7 inches.
Seeing as the background is from the In This Diary video, my guess is that it’s probably a vinyl pressing.
