I got started with LLO but Peregrine is much more cohesive and way less daunting. Plus, Ceremony and Sunlit Ascending are two of their best.
I actually think Two Conversations or Illumination Ritual would be good starting places, but I'm pretty sure those are also the same two I started with. I think Mare Vitalis would be a good starting point too if anyone wants to experience the drastic change in sound from that album to LLO.
I don't think I really actually got into the LLO albums until like last year lol. Love them now though
the LLOs by far the best but probably not the easiest place to start but also not as “hard” to get as some people make them sound... if you’ve listened to literally any post-rock at all you’ll be like “ok”
I wrote about this if anyone's interseteddddd Album Review: The Appleseed Cast - “The Fleeting Light of Impermanence” - The Alternative
I've been meaning to say that this feels pretty accessible as far as the band goes. Not since Two Conversations have they had an album this easily digestible imo. Not to say it's simplified or watered down in any way, it's still dense and experimental in a way that only this band can pull off. The vocals feel much more up front and present, which isn't usually the case, or at least not since the aforementioned Two Conversations. Every one of their albums starts with an intro track or song with a long opening before the vocals kick in, and it's not so with this one. I dig it.
It’s funny, I feel like this is less accessible than some of their other records solely on the basis of production/mixing but that’s the beauty of this band. I truly feel like there’s something for everyone. Still bummed I missed their set when they opened for Caspian in 2016.
That was a great tour. The sound at the venue I was at was awful, though. I can't believe that was three years ago already. Can't wait to hear the new Caspian.
I never listened to this band until I saw them at the final Balance show, and this record is very cool. Where should i go from here album wise?
Everyone will prolly say something different. My favorite is Sagarmatha so naturally I’m inclined to say listen to that
Alright, let's just get this over with already. 1. Low Level Owl 2. Peregrine 3. Two Conversations 4. The Fleeting Light of Impermanence 5. Sagarmatha 6. The End of the Ring Wars 7. Illumination Ritual 8. Mare Vitalis Really didn't like Illumination. Not sure why.
Shoot I can't rank them, that's like choosing which one of my kids are my favorite I don't have kids tho so I'll rank them later
gonna see them tonight for the 6th time Stoked to hear some of the new stuff live, they're playing about half of the album on this tour. Tour set looks amazing: The Appleseed Cast Setlist at Strummer's, Fresno Can't wait to hear Sunset Drama King live!
Soooooo good. I was on the fence because it was gonna be a late night but I'm so glad I went. No matter how many times I see them it's always sort of a spiritual experience. I didn't realize Chris is 47, dude forgets lyrics and his voice cracks and he sometimes doesn't even sing parts of a song (I've never heard him sing the "Fishing the sky" part in said song in 13 years), but they are practically the only band I will watch where none of that stuff bothers me in the slightest. They've never been a band that focuses on the vocals anyways, it's all about the atmosphere. The new stuff sounds fantastic live, especially Time, the Destroyer. Highly recommend going.
Dang. I was debating about going last night, but decided not too since it said the show ended at 2 and I live 3.5 hours away.
