Damn loved Strawflower. Already some good tones on this bad boy. Managed to avoid all the singles so I’m very stoked to dive in.
I was unable to sleep from 4-7am last night and this album really comforted me. “Solstice”, “Stubborn Man”, and the title track were my initial favorites.
Stubborn Man is such a damn groove. That, Just One Sec, and Solstice are early favorites. I didn’t know how to feel about the album initially, but it’s been growing on me more with each listen. Only tracks that still aren’t clicking with me are the title track and maybe Porchlight to a lesser extent, but I’ve also spent way more time on the front half of the album.
This also feels like the first antlers record that is kinda a clean break from the themes of previous records. The past three definitely felt like a hospice trilogy dealing with this abusive relationship (the initial events taking place in Hospice), the trauma after (Being really hopeless and not “wanting love” or to “fix his heart” in Burst apart), and finally healing from it (making “history less commanding” and “revisiting” those events to move past them in Familiars). Granted, I’ve never heard the first record, so idk how it falls into all of this.
finally sitting down to listen to this. I've had a rough few days and strawflower already got to me. it is so good to have this band back
This has a very different feel from their other stuff to me. I miss the grandeur of hospice and familiars but I think this will be very special to me in due time
thought this was mostly just okay but extremely pretty - kind of how I feel about most of their stuff these days
Yeah didn’t have a whole lotta staying power for me. Especially compared to the things they were doing on Familars
i only have about twenty 5/5 albums and familiars was one of them. it's enjoyable but comes nowhere near familiars.
I actually just listened to it this morning and thought that I should return to it more. There’s some really great songs on here like Just One Sec, Stubborn Man, and Porchlight. I really enjoy how each albums lyrical themes have progressed into each other.
familiars didn’t stick with me too much either. hospice and the one EP are what i come back to the most
New EP just dropped! Four reworked songs! UK/EU tour announcement today too, I've already seen they're playing Dublin in April!!
