I never really gave Snow Patrol a chance until my fiancee got me into their really excellent last album.
The one thing I know my list will underrepresent is like pre-50s musical theater/jazz/classical because the only method I can reasonably do is to go off my master list list of albums I've heard and own. Oh well. This list will be a moving target.
Quick rundown on these: David Ford – Song for the Road (2008) My wife gave me this song on a mix CD shortly after we started dating, when we were about to go long distance for the first time. Four years later, it was our first dance song at our wedding. Just a really lovely, thoughtful, interesting love song. I like his other stuff, but this is hands down my favorite song of his. Feeder – Feeling a Moment (2005) The album this song is from (called Pushing the Senses) is definitely one I'd recommend. It's produced by Gil Norton and really has that Futures/Recovering the Satellites sweep. This song is one of those openers that is just so melodically propulsive that it's hard not to get swept up in it. A few other really beautiful, big rock songs on that record. Matthew Ryan – Return to Me (2003) Best way I can describe Matthew Ryan is that he was kind of doing Horrible Crowes before Horrible Crowes. (Appropriately enough, he did a record produced by Brian Fallon in 2016 that sounds like Elsie.) This song/album is my favorite of his, though. David Nail – Home (2016) The album this is from is some nice, solid radio-friendly country. I like it, don't necessarily love it (though, it's got some killer features from Vince Gill, Brothers Osborne, and Logan Brill). But this song...man, it's just in another galaxy from everything else he's done. A lot of country artists write songs about home/hometowns/going home/leaving home/loving home. I've never heard a better take on it than this. Also, Lori McKenna is his duet partner here, so that helps. Snow Patrol – Run (2003) I'm sure you've heard this one at some point. It's really the song that made them. Final Straw definitely gets my endorsement, though. The perfect mid-way between their kind of off-kilter indie rock beginnings and the stadium-sized arena rock of their later albums. Brett Eldredge – Sunday Drive (2020) Eldredge was kind of a radio country guy for a long time, and he was enjoyable enough in that mode without ever really wowing me. Great voice, so-so songs. His album from last year really elevated him for me. He worked with the guys who produced Golden Hour and went for something a lot more personal and timeless in the songs. This one is a personal one for me, because I listened to it a lot on my way home from seeing my grandma for the last time. But I think you'd like the record. The Alternate Routes – Carry Me Home (2010) I think we've talked about these guys before. They're somewhere between, like, Damnwells-style roots rock and U2. I really love the album this song is from; just really solid, catchy, fun, huge-sounding rock songs. Abandoned Pools – From Long Sleep (2012) I don't actually like the album this song is from that much, and I'm hit or miss on this band otherwise, aside from a few songs. I got assigned this album for review early on when I was writing for AbsolutePunk. Not much else about it stuck, but I fell head over heels in love with this song.
I actually saw The Alternate Routes open for Averi at their biggest ever headline show right before they broke up. I wish I could say I remembered much about them, but they didn't make a huge impression. I will definitely be checking these songs out this week.

I remember you mentioning that! Yeah, I've never seen them live or anything. I think they had two very solid albums leading up to the one this is from (called Lately, from 2010), which just felt a lot more assured to me. Then they made one more in 2014 and kind of fell off the map after that. They've released a few singles since, but no full-length projects, which has been frustrating since I felt like they were just hitting their stride.
@CarpetElf On the subject of that Middle East song (which I also adore), have you ever heard the Mree cover of it? I swear it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
just a bold song choice. not a bad thing. just never would have expected that one if you told me an interpol song would be on the list.

100 songs is a very small sampling. Like I have tons of hip-hop I like. But I’m not sure any will crack my 100. I’m sure that’s the case with Metal for some people too
I really need more music from her. She's been doing more twitch streaming lately. Her one-off track "Harvest Moon" was one of the songs on repeat that got me through the start of the pandemic.
