These are all really solid observations, especially Feng being up all night thinking of new ideas for the business because of Grace’s adderall. The theories I’ve read online definitely seem to point to Ulysses as the culprit. When Feng says in this episode that it’s always been about Vivian, that feels like the writers throwing up the bat signal right there. It’s always been about Vivian because, despite all the red herrings pointing to motives behind profiting off of Edgar’s wealth, the onus ultimately falls on a person who cares nothing for his money or even really for Edgar himself. It was always about Vivian. Ulysses tries and tries to get over his obsession, removing himself from her presence thousands of miles away, but he never moves on. For Vivian, the affair was nothing more than passion in the heat of the adventurous moment, but she genuinely loves Feng. So along comes Edgar out of the blue to tell Ulysses about his impending nuptials and along the way he inserts the idea into Ulysses’ head that maybe Grace is his daughter. Now he’s got an excuse to not only see Vivian again for the wedding, but also to remain in her life forever. It’s just that she clearly does love Feng and does not share Ulysses’ projections of their relationship. In everyone else’s stories, Ulysses has been the enigmatic wanderer who is cultured and experienced in the ways of the world and a hero who swoops in to save the day. In the actual videos of the wedding, Ulysses is constantly stepping on Feng’s toes in moments when it should be Feng’s time to step up. Everything Ulysses is doing in the background is undermining Feng and attempting to make him look absent, crazy, jealous, and ultimately guilty. He purposely misleads Danner and Aniq into thinking Feng had a motive and (potentially) lies about the cotton swab and cup being a paternity test. The reality is more likely that he poisoned Feng’s cup with the cotton swab, intending to kill him, but then Feng inadvertently switches the cup given to him by Ulysses with Edgar’s cup when attempting to get him to buy into his business. Ulysses then drowns his sorrows with alcohol over his guilt for thinking he’s just condemned Feng to die, which is why he drunkenly tells Travis the bar is closed and to make his own drink. The next morning when Grace screams, Ulysses runs past Grace’s room (the shadow Travis mentioned) to Vivian’s room thinking she must have awoken to her dead husband. When he comes back to Grace’s door to find he’s accidentally killed Edgar instead, he quickly wipes a pistachio nut off of his shoe.

Will be curious to see if it turns out to be someone else and how they string all of that together instead, but right now Ulysses is looking incredibly guilty and his story was the most fantastical in the vein of Yasper from season one as well.

  2. Oh neat, yeah I like the theory that Ulysses meant to kill Feng. Initially my gut had written him off because the weird, world traveling outsider felt a little too obvious. But the theory that he killed Edgar by accident tracks

As much as I thought the first couple episodes were weak, I think this season has been as good as 1 since episode 3 or 4. I would watch 8 seasons of Sam Richardson and Tiffany Haddish doing rashomon mysteries

Hitchcock episode! Love it. Still sticking with the Ulysses theory at this point.

  5. This episode was madder than a mad hatter at a hat haberdashery

I am thinking he has faked his own death. The body has been face down on the bed the whole time and they alluded to his dad having a suspicious death (the charred remains). Not sure if Jack Whitehall is in on it with him or not.

I'm on the train of Ulysses. At the end of the last episode he was very quick to be the first one to try and lay to rest that it was the mom after she told her story and before the cops show up

This episode was wild. Laughed so hard at Isabel's reaction to Grace not taking their last name, pausing, and burping in her mouth. And reading the Hanson lyrics.

Back to form in this latest after a couple rather lackluster eps. Laughed a lot, Elizabeth Perkins is such a good actor.

Oh and I am definitely going to need a self aware season 3 where someone dies on the set of Detective Danner’s filmic adaptation of season one featuring a star studded cast including Elijah Wood as Yasper. Please give me that. I don’t even care that it’s basically the plot of Only Murders In The Building Season 3.

The 2nd season wasn't as good and I think there's a limit to the concept but they probably could have gotten another season out of it

That was literally the only show I liked on Apple TV other than Ted Lasso and Shrinking and I was really curious for what they were setting up at the end of S2

after season 2, they probably should have just left it a one season limited series. that was rough. not really surprised.

It’s also just a super limited concept. I enjoyed it but there’s really not much else they can do with it.
