It definitely sold me when Headland said she took Inspiration from Chinese Wuxia and Kung Fu cinema in the same way Lucas took inspiration from Samurai and Western films. Same artistic approach, different styles.
What the Sith were up to in hiding pre-Palpatine was always one of the most fascinating blank spots in Star Wars lore to speculate on, I am happy it's finally getting covered here.
slightly-related to the show, but is there some canon, in-universe explanation as to why the number of yellow lightsabers dwindled between the High Republic and prequel eras? they seem to be prevalent here based on all the trailers (and in other High Republic media), and i know they make brief appearances in episodes of The Clone Wars, Dark Disciple, The Bad Batch, and TROS. if not, it'd be interesting to see Leslye Headland try to bridge the gap a tiny bit.
I Googled and apparently yellow lightsabers primarily belong to Jedi Sentinels, so they're a rarity simply because Sentinels are a rarity.
i saw that. my confusion is whether that explanation seems to align more with EU/Legends stuff. from what i've seen, lightsaber color has arbitrary meaning to a character's allegiance or personality beyond red kyber crystals representing impurity/the Dark Side, and white representing complete purity/no allegiance. i guess a case could be made for yellow having some sort of meaning based on its use by temple guards, and the Sentinel explanation could potentially apply to Rey, but for the most part, most colors seem to be personal preference?
This is going to follow the same release timing that Ahsoka did, 9PM EST/6PM PST. So don't stay up late tonight hoping to catch it at Midnight or 3AM like most other streaming series, because it's dropping primetime tomorrow night.
I got to see the first two episodes at one of the early screenings at the theater tonight. Don't want to say too much but I did enjoy it.
Not sure if Rolling Stone broke embargo, but… oof. 'The Acolyte' Review: 'Star Wars' Series Isn't A Force To Be Reckoned With
i put little stock in Rolling Stone's opinions (let's not forget they called that one U2 album that ended up in everyone's iTunes libraries their AOTY - which wasn't a bad album, but definitely not AOTY material). i'm sure it'll be good. also there are pretty major spoilers in that review for those who want to go in blind, just FYI.
I generally like Alan Spenwall's opinions, you should look at the individual contributors over the overall pub
not saying that every single contributor has a bad-faith take. i just always feel like most of their writers' opinions don't really stick with me. definitely better than when Jann Wenner was still around. also looks like the article has been pulled, so i guess they broke embargo.
Looks like Noon was the embargo, and the reviews (so far that I've seen, no RT yet) are mixed leaning to positive. https://collider.com/the-acolyte-review/ https://www.cbr.com/the-acolyte-premiere-review/ ‘The Acolyte’ Review: ‘Star Wars’ Mystery Series Tries To Reinterrogate ‘Phantom Menace’ Ideas With Mixed Results 'The Acolyte' Review: The Best 'Star Wars' Series Since 'Andor'
the page keeps refreshing/glitching, but from what i could briefly grab a couple minutes ago, RT is sitting at like 86% with 37 reviews, i think?
Metacritic is currently at 68, but that's based on 13. It and RT tend to be a mess on day one. So, we'll see. No matter what, I'm watching at 9pm.
Yellow has generally been the color for those who are protectors or guardians. The idea is that a youngling’s crystal will call to them so they normally would reflect someone’s personality. Part of the reason there’s so many in the High Republic era is the Jedi were more out in the galaxy as guardians and less Temple dwellers in time period, which is why as the Jedi remained so fixed to the Temple and less out in the world, the color yellow diminished in number.
