Ugh, whyyyyyyyyy. Just because your fans are grown up now doesn't mean we want to listen to the "mature sounds of a band who used to rock but now makes music for coffee shops." If I can still rock at 47, so can they. Oh, I hate when bands do that/this.
The 17/18 years between records isn't for everyone, I guess? I'll still check it out but I didn't like the live videos out there, either. :shrugs:
My expectations are tempered. I ran through both of the life new songs and thought they were okay. I am bummed the fourth record didn’t come out. There’s a before Fast Times release and after version of this band. I have so much nostalgia and hype for how funny and awesome they were. I think Santi is a killer follow-up to a massively successful debut. I wish they would have kept pushing in that direction. Fast times has some good songs, but it lost a lot of life for me and then the William solo stuff was more of the same from that time. Doesn’t seem like they have been able to recapture the magic. I saw the first reunion Riot show and it was awesome, it’s a little tired to keep doing the same set of a legacy album. Overall it will be cool to see what the album shapes up to be. Of the Fueled by Ramen bands coming back with reckless abandon Cobra seems to be doing it best. I was not really a fan back in the day but I saw some of their Warped set and it was pretty rad. They have Thrasher, the dude who does a lot of production with Travis playing guitar ripping solos, and Gabe hasn’t lost his stage presence at all.
@Craig Manning, where did you make your argument for Fast Times and Chase The Light being the most underrated pop albums because of how people had a weird negative connotation with the sound during that period? I can't find it now but think about it a lot recently.
Fast times is a good record. For me it was such a departure from the essence of what I love about the band it didn’t stick like the first two.
I'm sure that album coming out right before I started my last year of high school has to do with how much I like it, but yeah, I always felt like it was actually a step up for them, whereas almost everyone else seemed to think it was this precipitous drop off.
Chase This Light is the only one that isn't my favorite of the respective band's discography, and that's only because it runs into Futures, literally my third favorite album ever.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only person who feels Santi is the awkward album from them and not close to their best.
