I personally enjoy the more up tempo stuff like Santi. These songs are a bit too mellow. It’s ok but was hoping for more energy.
Song is probably better in album context. Doesn’t strike me as a single like the other two. Also only one listen. Still stoked for the album.
It’s a fine song for any band but TAI for me. It’s unfair in expectation for me to want Almost Here Pt. 2. But we have seen bands come back and evolve from what they did best while adding new wrinkles. Yellowcard, TSL, MCS alone last year absolutely NAILED this. But this is the third song that hasn’t quite hit it for me; if anything, each track gets me further away. I still want to hear the record. Just cautious now.
Not only that but calling it Almost There implies that it’s a full circle moment which makes me want a Part 2 even more.
This is where I disagree quite a bit. For one, TSL, I do not think released an album that sounds that much like their previous work at all. I think it and this are very very very similar in taking the band's influences in running in a new direction. TSL took more of their rock side, TAI took their 80s influence. I think there's a strong similarity there. The core of the band is there but they accentuated new limbs. Second, for a band that has one kinda pop-punk meets TBS album, one Butch Walker album, and one last day of summer more pop than anything album .. I've never really thought they have "a sound" more than they had Will's voice and a vibe. This entire album is a vibe. Anyway, the album's fantastic and I'll defend it all year.
One of the best thiings abdout music is that its subjective and everyone has different tastes. Would be boring if everyone had the same opinion on all music If you enjoy the new sound great, if not also great, just enjoy what you enjoy. I think a big part of music is also that its probably the closest thing we have to an actual time machine. So much of it is about reminiscing, and it’s not true 100 percent of the time, but we tend to want to hear a band sound like they did at a point in our lives that signified an important milestone or time period.
This shifted my perspective. I listened to the new songs with new ears. I’m excited for the whole record now. Genuinely.
