I wish the altpress article kept my quote about the reason why I was even in a position to be brought on as a staff member lol
I passed out after posting that but it was because Ryan Mills wrote a negative Vheissu review to be a dick towards Jason because Jason wrote a (deservedly) glowing review prior of that Thrice record.
I was too afraid to post on AP because users were getting sniped left and right for liking the bands I liked.
I was posting on AP as young as ~15, and it was a classic situation where at the time I felt that all these 20-somethings I was talking to and joking around with were all so cool and funny, and then when I became their age it was clear that you were all just huge developmentally-stunted losers who said things that only someone with the brain of a teenager would enjoy
Reading through this tonight - looking back and realizing I first found out about AP in like, 2006? as a barely teen, via another barely teen friend I met through the AOL kids only forums (through which I temporarily got all my family's AOL accounts suspended for breaking the forum's no cursing rules by putting "F.O.D", aka fuck off and die by green day, in my signature lmao). I think her AP name was "sonnybertgerard", and when I joined (username "vandalsandquinn", jesus christ lol) I quickly found out she was on the "annoying poster" shit list, probably mostly for being a normal awkward teen who was obsessed with lead singers. What a truly awful time to be a young girl on the internet lol. I can't imagine being in my 20s and being as cruel to a teenager as some people were on AP Anyway, I ended up sticking around on the AP forums way longer than she did. It's very funny to remember so many of the bizarre controversies mentioned in this thread. Really weird to be starting my 30's and realizing how much of my precious young developing brain was formed by shit from the forums back in those days lol. Also grateful that even though I was definitely at times a disgusting little asshole on AP to try and fit in, I became a pretty normal adult. There was so much casual joking about awful things like rape and other misogynistic/racist/generally violent shit that I can't imagine seeing here (and to be fair, that kind of joking was just generally part of the broader pop culture at the time, easily found in some sitcoms and movies from that period which aged terribly). It seems like kids today (hopefully) aren't experiencing this kind of thing in the same way that kids did in the 2000s, but then again I don't have tik tok and I don't understand what a glizzy is so what do I really know lol maybe it's terrible in a very different way! Long live the general forum, an awful and beautiful place
I randomly just remembered that on New Year's Eve every year for 3-4 years, one of my friends bought the domain "www.absolutehunk.net" and linked it to another friend's Facebook profile
I don’t even remember how to use forums. I can barely use a computer. My brain is gone. Spo (Espo?) and Jake, what’s up?
I would stay in character if I could remember any usernames. AP was such a huge part of my life from like 2006 to 2012??? What are any of you old regulars up to? I stopped using social media like 10 years ago and lost track of everybody. turntable.fm crew, sports forum posters, film people like tetra or sean, shit posters, general forum posters, asap rocky - goldy music video, etc.
One of my best friends met someone on turntable.fm & they got married and have a whole ass family now. Turntable sent them a custom onesie, it was wild
Does Jack Appleby still post here? He pops up on my TikTok FYP like everyday edit: he's probably gonna pop up even more now that I typed this
Lol no, he doesn't. He's too busy trying to turn into a pro 3x3 basketball player and being a LinkedIn guru.
