It's weird because I still can't watch Baseketball and see this scene without Slade triggering in my head.

  4. hi the algorithm on google news rec's me unnerving content sometimes and I blame my past on absolute punk dot net (don't have kids and haven't googled anything about having kids, this is unprompted)

In the current context of guitar-based music, I get the hype for the latest MGK effort: but I’m sure the people in this thread will get me when I say that I’ve heard that stuff before and it was done better in ‘03 - ‘09, and if I want to hear it I’ll probably stick with those records mostly.

Really cool read! I had no idea about the Drive Thru Records drama and reading the posts from both sides you linked was really... Interesting lol

I'm super late on this but who has more info on: "The JJR Incident And When The Wonder Years Stopped Being Friends"

I know about the JJR incident and I remember TWY being very quiet about the whole thing but never really knew where it went from there.

Basically, members of TWY are still boys with JJR and there have been rumblings since the start that the firing of him by the band was more for show rather than them actually holding him accountable. As recent as last year a few of their members are in pics with him. Afaik, Dan took it seriously and did cut ties. Idk how true that is.

Well, that's disappointing. I knew FYS stayed tight with him. The last time I saw them, they brought him on stage. I went to go get a beer and find another stage lol

Yeah it really sucks, haha. I keep thinking about how if TWY said something...anything even if it were to be coded or worded in a way that legal action couldn't be taken (that was the rumor going around at the time, that he would sue them if they spoke out), that he might have lost some of his prominence within the scene.

Looking back now, that's silly because half the band is still friends with him. They didn't say anything because they still like him.

I started posting on AP in 2004 during my first year of college. I think my old username was DeathCabForCoons or something like that. I think I maybe had 1,000+ posts in the various LOST threads, freaking out during episodes and then spending the week writing dissertations on The Turn of the Screw and bickering over polar bears.
My only claim to fame was getting a Swan Station Key USB drive from ABC that had the first scene from the Season 6 premiere a month before it aired that I was DM'ing to just about everyone in that thread.

Too bad we can't find the comments from some of those reviews. I remember favorably comparing Kesha's debut to Mean Everything To Nothing and it got flaaaaaamed.

Also, just read the Midtown interview (2002 was a little before my addiction to AP began). HOLY SHIT. Absolutely insane to read in print. Did I make this up or is someone either writing a book or making a documentary about Drive-Thru Records? Would looooove to hear what bands like The Early November and the rest of them say. Would also be interesting to see if anyone in 2020 would go as scorched earth as Midtown did then. One can dream.

I don't think there's been a Drive Thru doc yet, but a well made one with a lot of involvement would honestly be amazing

    I do not exist.

I’ve loved reading through this thread.

I started visiting regularly when there was an exclusive first listen to O’Porcupine by mewithoutYou (I think it was that song anyway) back in 2006. I lurked for a while and then got involved with the forums.

This whole website has been a major part of my life and hugely influenced my outlook and my music tastes. I’ve never really been a prolific poster overall (probably a time difference thing being in the UK) but there’s so many people here where I know your username and even though I know pretty much nothing about you outside music, sport or films, I know you’re someone I respect and value.

Come to think about it, I like that a lot.

I’ve never really had many friends who liked the same music as me so I treasure the discussions about new albums by my favourite artists and I love discovering new artists recommended here.

Anyway, a good read. Hoping so more stories come out - I loved reminiscing about the Brazil / Paramore situation!

As I think about it this site indirectly made it possible to get one of my two favorite artists to make a guest appearance one one of our albums. That alone makes joining this site hugely consequential for me, let alone the myriad other reasons.

    Regular Prestigious

just spent an hour reading through this. I only joined AP back in 2008, so I don't have nearly as many memories about some of the really old stuff.

mostly just posted a ton in the TWY thread and being entirely way too upset when people would come in that weren't a part of the ~25 people that posted in there a lot. and also being extremely excited when I got to make the new thread after it hit 10,000 posts. and super excited any time that Dan would post in the thread. don't really talk to anyone from those days anymore though.

getting super excited every December for the winter/snow theme.

met a few people at shows throughout the years. RockTheWalls came down from Toronto and we saw the four albums, two nights, seven cities MCS tour and got to have dinner with two of the guys from MCS while he interviewed them. that was hella cool.

I like to think I was a somewhat nice person on AP but I'm sure I lashed out stupidly a few times.

this was a trip down memory lane though. now I mostly just lurk and occasionally post in the Beer Thread and some of the entertainment threads.

edit: just randomly popped in my head. all the www.alexislegend.com concert videos. still uploading them on YouTube but the website no longer exists.
