Never got a real ban, but Drew threadbanned me once.

 

As others have said, I thank the Lord that AP was nuked to hell. Incredibly toxic, lots of gatekeeping, misogyny and racism (I’ll never forget the posters on the news thread saying how the guy in Cali Swag District that got shot and killed should have had someone “teach him how to duck-y”). The news threads were awful, the clique shit was the worst, just a bad time half the time.

But the other half was awesome, like: the music recs, Jason Vs. Banalog Rebellion, the pleas for the Cobra Starship interview, the weekly Atticus merch contest that happened for like a month, that random day every anticipated album leaked all at once, the artist Q & A’s that would devolve into madness. I look back on that part fondly.

 

Those accounts that just used to post only in news threads were a different kind of freak though, just absolute psychos. Most of us were no saints back then for sure, but regular forum posters seemed markedly less toxic to me than the news-only posters (in my experience anyway).

 

There's a reason there was no comment section on here when it first started lol

 

It was definitely pretty cool and I felt “special” in a way when like Alex from ATL, Dan from TWY, and of course Hayley would randomly drop in and comment on stuff. I know it’s happened a few times on Chorus but it seemed to be way more a regular occurrence on AP

Threadban was a badge of honor I wanted but never got.

 

Agreed - some insane threats and bullying that just...happened all the time, in front of everyone. Even when it was brought to some of the Mods as "hey this is happening or about to happen", we were met with things like "thinly veiled comments will not be addressed".
Do not miss that.

But this place definitely allowed me to meet some awesome people and get into so much new music.

 

I have had very little interaction with you on here and none on AP but this pic is one of the few things I distinctly remember. Nice to know a little background on it.

i wish i remembered more of this stuff despite being around for like 15 years. probably at least partially because there was a few year stretch where i didn’t really stray from the sports forum (ick)

i think lurking news posts turned to lurking genforum turned to posting in gen trying to ingratiate myself to the btbadam/lastlight/droppedurpocket crew and avoid getting flamed by slade. i think it sorta worked

anyone know how droppedurpocket sean is doing?
