I could never jump into the turntable sessions most times. They were always too late at night with the time difference. The few that I did join were great.
I have definitely been waaaaay more active on chorus than on ap. I can't even remember my username on that. Think it was either Wander89 or something else entirely. Definitely lurked more than posted.
someone already mentioned it but something like Turntable would probably make a killing today. How did we even find it? Did someone involved with it promote it on AP? Was it actually popular? Bc I don't remember ever hearing about it outside AP
there was a time when I only had "Natural's Not In It" by Gang of Four in my Turntable queue so if I got kicked off the DJ booth, whenever I got back on it would just play again and some people got very mad
I tried to make a collaborative music listening app in college but I gave up because no one really gave a shit.
i do miss having like a group of people that i checked in with everyday like i did back then. i guess i have a lot of those folks on like facebook and twitter and all that but it's all very passive.
That's what I thought but then looking at it's wikipedia page there was clearly interest in it by mainstream figures: "By July 2011, turntable.fm raised a $7 million round at a $35 million valuation in a funding led by Fred Wilson at Union Square Ventures.[12] All initial investors of Stickybits were involved in the round, including First Round Capital, Polaris Venture Partners, and Lowercase Ventures. A number of entertainment executives have also invested, including Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Troy Carter, MTV's Courtney Holt, former Facebook executive Tim Kendall, The Roots, and Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary.[13] By September 2011, turntable.fm had been used by over 600,000 people and streamed around 1 million songs per day." And I mean I think it could be popular today because of how ubiquitous streaming culture is now
You’d certainly have more immediate access to high quality audio. Wasn’t the audio coming from YouTube if I remember correctly?
"The DJ either provided a song that they possess on their local computer or selected a song from Turntable.fm's library"
i like to think everyone who leaves this community or stops posting does so cause they've moved on to better things in their lives, then i take a good hard look at my life.
uh huh... sorry man. i figured something was bad when you said you were moving back on twitter. bummer.
I echo the turntable.fm nostalgia, I've checked out other apps like it, and uh... I don't know, they were cool, I think I just didn't have a cool community to share it with. I miss the Free Music Friday that had those small/up and coming bands, I found a bunch of artists when they were just getting off the ground that I still follow now.
I have a happy, stable life with a great fiancée and a job and such...and I post much more selectively than I did back when I was a mess. So yeah, that sounds about right.
I never really used the site to talk about my personal life so my posting habits haven’t changed that much. Definitely post less than I used to
