Random came across Bong Mountain on a whole library shuffle the other day and ended up listening to "you're doing great! (for the record)" for the first time a couple years, and it reminded me how far behind I'm on punk of that ilk from the last few years. Other than the Teenage Bottlerocket/Menzos records from last year, anyone got some recs of punk stuff of the FEST ilk from 2018/2019/2020 I should check out?
Legit forgot to include those as a reference point as this was a quick post - Schmaltz was my top album of 2018. Brave Faces is a top 5 album for 2020. Now that I have more time to reply, I'd love for some stuff in the vein of The Ergs!, Off With Their Heads ("Orgcore" though I hate that term, but it's a good descriptor) - but more stuff like Spanish Love Songs, The Menzos, and Captain, We're Sinking is always welcome.
I figured as much since everyone loved SLS. Broadway Calls first album in forever was great. That and the new TLA are the only other bands of that sound I’ve heard 2020 albums from.
Classic punk isn't one of my areas of greatest knowledge (The Clash are amazing, the Ramones are very good, the Sex Pistols suck) but this record is very much my shit:
yes. blank generation is about as perfect a song as one could make that whole television/johnny thunders/richard hell scene of CBGB is so important
the run from how could hell be any worse through to the gray race is pretty much perfect. even though the next few took a dip the last few recent ones have bounced back
apparently Jeff Nelson from Minor Threat had a pretty extensive gum collection and it was featured on this old public access show - the former host of the show posted the segment on his YouTube channel:
