When are you talking? I'd say there was a golden age from the 70s-90s where the majority of movies nominated were good.
Bottom 5 worst BP noms that I have seen: 1. Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Joker 3. American Fiction (never finished) 4. Emilia Perez 5. Vice I have The Reader rated very low for somer reason, I don't remember why I did not like it.
I'm not mad about the noms this year. Wicked getting blanked is really funny. I did not care for Frankenstein or Hamnet but I understand people liking them. F1 was fun but forgettable, like I would have plugged in Avatar: Fire and Ash there instead for the blockbuster slot but whatever. Really a shame No Other Choice got snubbed completely.
I was going to order the /400 Sirat vinyl yesterday but it's $72 to ship a single LP from the UK. Shucks.
1975 has maybe the best 5 for bp ever? Barry Lyndon Dog Day Afternoon Jaws Nashville One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
I did not hate JoJo Rabbit or Three Billboards as much as most people. Not good, but I did not actively hate them like those 5.
Mostly the same as the Oscar's except itd be like if Oscar nominees were exclusively decided via box office
The last 3 years, a movie from my top 5 of the year has won best picture and its most likely going to happen for the fourth time in a row this year. I know the voting base has expanded and gotten younger and more diverse but it's odd for my tastes to start becoming more aligned
Grammys generally don't nominate anything great. occasionally something good slips in but it's rare. the whole ceremony only celebrates pop/popular artists, though it's admittedly fun in that it celebrates music in a broader sense. I'd also say Grammys don't hold the same cultural weight as an Oscar
The fact that it's "easier" to make an album than it is to make a feature-length movie means that the number of albums that could be nominated for a Grammy is significantly higher than the movies that can be nominated for an Oscar; hence why they default the most popular stuff.
The best awards show is probably The Game Awards. They don't even care who wins; it is just a giant commercial for new games.
The problem is that awarding art ends up favoring certain genres and movements. There is no measurable objectivity.
