I mostly liked OBAA. I don't agree with any of the critiques I've been seeing from ppl who hated it. I can't articulate what bothered me personally about the film other than that "the vibes were off." I'm not upset that it won. I'm glad PTA finally got an Oscar. I loved Sinners tho. But maybe that's mostly just from me being a fan of the horror genre. Maybe Sinners really is not the "better film" and OBAA was more deserving. idk. I do hope Coogler wins for directing eventually. I'm mostly just glad Sinners, Frankenstein, and Weapons didn't leave entirely empty handed. tldr I'm satisfied with how things went down, I guess. Side note: I do think Chainsaw Man was a better film than KPDH, but there was no chance in hell the Academy was gonna nominate a film where the main character grows a chainsaw from his face and hands and rides a four legged shark up a skyscraper to fight a giant baby kaiju and a girl with a bomb for a head. Obv I'm glad KPDH won twice, I just wish they were given the opportunity to properly say their thank yous.
I haven’t enjoyed anything directed by Coogler. Judas and the Black Messiah was great but he was only a producer for that
Magellan is finally out on VOD today so none of these awards matter because everything will probably pale in comparison to that
I’ve only seen one last month (Norte, the End of History) and it fully converted me. I think this one is supposed to be similarly approachable. I mean check this trailer—looks stunning
