I am a completionist. I want to see the movie but feel weird skipping the webseries and going right to it/the show
Yeah I haven’t watched the show/webseries at all and it wasn’t an issue. Maybe there are references I didn’t get but they had to have been pretty subtle or at least worked well enough on their own
I went in blind and it was a perfect entry point. Within 5 min I got their whole thing and from then on, the movie is a series of escalating magic tricks. Went back and watched the viceland show and then saw the movie again. Played incredibly both times. Funniest movie of the last decade. Highest recommendation to anyone
Yes it absolutely works as a stand alone. Go see it in cinema you wont feel like you've missed anything and can go back for eggs later if you must
Apparently Matt Johnson's Blackberry film won like half of the film awards at the Canadian Screen Awards in 2024 lol
next year will easily have ten candidates since we already have Spielberg, Nolan, Gerwig, Fincher, and maybe Scorcese
The idea that people will feel guilt over checking the box saying they've seen it is pretty ridiculous. For years people have admitted to letting their grandkids or their gardener fill it out for them.
I love this time of year where the Hollywood Reporter and Variety interview the most braindead motherfuckers who somehow were handed Oscar ballots
I dunno how much they get it right, but right now GoldDerby looks like they have most categories split between OBAA and Sinners. With OBAA getting Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay, and Editing; then Sinners getting Best Actor, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Best Casting, and Score. They also have Frankenstein getting all the costume/production/hair/makeup design awards. They have Avatar: Fire & Ash for Visual Effects. K-Pop Demon Hunters for Animated Feature and Best Song.
We tried to get thru sinners the other day. I was surprised that with all the hype and nominations, I just couldn’t get into it.
