Ari hasn’t gotten any Oscar noms, Eddington hasn’t gotten any award consideration from any body as far as I can tell. Tough subject matter for a lot of people and it bombed financially. Never stood a chance

Love Eddington. Love Aster. One of the best younger filmmakers out right now

Aster keeps getting better. Eddington is his best so far

Aster and Robert Eggers are two "newer" directors whose films seem to get near-universal acclaim (though I guess Aster's last two have been more polarizing) but nonetheless never get any sort of recognition during awards season. Makes me wonder if they actively try to avoid this stuff

I don't think it will happen but Sinners breaking the record for most noms and then losing every category would be kind of funny. Would probably make for horrible discourse though.

Last year’s most nominated movie was Emilia Perez. So sometimes a huge mistake like that will happen before everyone realizes they nominated an abhorrent piece of shit and it loses it all.

Sinners will pick up some awards. I think Coogler’s at least getting original screenplay

Emilia Perez didn't lose because it is a bad movie. It lost because of all of the comments the star had made and then they doubled and tripled down.

I've got Sinners winning Picture, Casting, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Costume, and Score.

I've got One Battle winning Director, Supporting Actress, Adapted Screenplay, and Editing.

Should I watch Train Dreams, F1 or The Secret Agent first?

Probably The Secret Agent (I'm about to watch it in a bit). Train Dreams is good though.

Might do Train Dreams just because of length and the fact that I don’t need to download it right now

Hm my immediate reaction is I like the look of this but I feel like it is already stripping away some of the beauty of the book with the narration and the pacing

Agreed, if you're going to watch F1, do it with a really great setup or in a theater.

Instead of F1 just watch Dazed and Confused again.

Train Dreams was alright. I am going to watch Jesus’ Son now

Even though I like Aster, it’s gonna take a big studio tamping his impulses down and making him do, like, a biopic for a movie of his to be nominated for an Oscar.

I watched Frankenstein. It was ok.

  22. He certainly doesn’t have to do a biopic to get nominated. Bugonia is a very weird movie that just got nominated lol. Come on.

it isn’t surprising and it is disappointing that Eddington didn’t get nominated but pump the brakes a bit. Is there even a single biopic in the best picture nominees this year?

Bugonia is the most tame Lanthimos film in a while. He is also part of the club already.

Bugonia is much better than Poor Things.

Hamnet and Marty Supreme would be the closest and both are like 80% fictional lol
